I believe the best way would be to make them feel more at "home" where they are. Get them involved in whatever interests them; make them feel a part of where they ARE. Some of your answers have been thoughtful, but there's a risk in keeping the "home" connection open, for then it will be more difficult for the person to release. I've no idea if this person intends to "go home," which would be a quite different story. I'm not saying they should cut themselves off, but if others help them to feel really accepted, & good where they are, "homesick" will wane.

If the person who is homesick is not a child and enjoys cooking that would be a great way to go
Ask them to make one of the meals they like to make at home and have dinner together, also talking to friends and family over the phone can be helpful as well as keeping busy with fun activities, even if it's just getting out of the house you're currently in with them and going shopping, playing a game, or doing some sort of craft. Just keep them busy so they don't have time to think about how much they miss home.
