If "a" is here, and "b" is over there, where would "c" be? Think about it...It's a question without a right answer. You really can't say "c" is here, nor can you say it's over there. So where actually would "c" be? Could one say yonder, but yonder is slang for over there. It would be interesting to get some thoughts on this. Good luck!

Freud is momentarily downplayed as the rage (and hope) nowdays is neuroscience, that is using fMRI and PET to search for the mind's workings and faults. This conception is a kind of biological reductionism that is reviving in psychology after seeming to have been abandoned. Predictably, it will swing back in few years after the intial enthusiasm wears off and the "great expectations" will be replaced by frustrations. As to psychoanalysis there are many problems with it but the last generation of critics doesn't help sorting out them out. They all seem to agree only on character assassination : Freud was a charlatan and psychoanalysis is a fraud of gigantic proportions. For the rest each as his own pet theory/interpretation to promote. And they do it as cocksure and blind to self criticism as Freud did but they do it while having far less of substance to offer. For MacMillam and Shamasdani it is all suggestion and imagining things [ nevermind that the charge of suggesstion is as unfalsifiable as that of repression : once laid down there is no defense against it since anything working can be explained as working because of suggestion ]. For Borch-Jacobsen it is "mimetism", for Esterson it mixing facts with interpretations, for Crews it is pseudoscience as opposed, perahps, to English literature which is his field of expertise, for Cioffi it is "pseudo-heremeneutics" [whatever this may mean], for Szasz it is all ethics, politics, and religion. Even Sophia Freud has an opinion : it is essentially similar to Mein Kampf. Freud would be overwhelmed to know how many possible meta-interpretations he missed to consider as alternative explanations. However in truth Freud did often overstate his case-- perhaps a necessity if you want to have your points considered at all-- and it now fires back in some good critical points to be made. But none of them warrants the bashing attitude and the "final" conclusions that these new anti-freudian scholars try to promote.

I have bought some Paul McKenna hypnosis cds. Is it safe or even effective if I listen to more than one in the same day or will my brain become kind of muddled with different suggestions? For example a weight loss one and a confidence one on same day? Thank you.

This cousin, although I think he means well, thinks he is the most thoughtful person around. There are instances at school where it's like a curse to be related to him. I'll be in the middle of a conversation of with a friend [who doesn't like him] and he'll think I'm evil because I won't talk to him.
On other occasions, like when me and my mom go to the stores or something and we ask him to tag along, he starts asking other people if they want to come too. He thinks he's being polite by taking everybody's wishes into consideration, but he isn't the one planning the outting, and he doesn't take it into consideration how this other person he's invited doesn't really know us all that well "but it's okay because he's your third cousin".

There are times I'd like to point out these faults, but then he counters it with all of my faults. I don't know how to deal with this. Is this my problem or his? How do I figure out how to work in his mentality?

The list goes on...

This girl I know was raped by her father in middle school. Now she seems normal, isn't scared to be friends with guys and such. I know she hasnt had actual sex yet but she does some fetish things like getting paddled. She also described her vision of a guy acting dominant over her. Is this right for someone that has been through rape?

Reason I ask is because I do love her, not for any sexual reason but she has a nice personality and such. She knows I do but only considures me as a friend. I am fine only being that role but I still do my best to look out and care for her. Plus I also went through rape when I was younger and still don't like certain situations or actions from guys.

For me it's:

1. Books (necessary for fun and general well-being)
2. Music (would miss terribly if not in my life)
3. Films (fun but wouldn't miss it)
4. Art (Irrelevant to me, only interested in practical 'art' like interior decorating and clothes)
