For me it's:

1. Books (necessary for fun and general well-being)
2. Music (would miss terribly if not in my life)
3. Films (fun but wouldn't miss it)
4. Art (Irrelevant to me, only interested in practical 'art' like interior decorating and clothes)

Juniperflux32, I am also a library assistant. I refer to art as visual art like paintings, photography, sculpture. Stop being such a pedant, you knew what I meant!

Pmarie, this is actually a question I regular ly have asked different friends for at least 10 years. I just had the idea then to ask it on Yahoo Answers as well. Why not, it's all for fun!

Rozzy, that's agood point, if you include design and craft I might have to up Art to third place, I will think about it.

Consequently I may have to apologise to Juniperflux32, I didn't realise my conception of art as visual art could be so fraught with confusion!!

Pmarie, thanks for making the effort to clear up the misunderstanding and be nice - it's so easy to step on people's toes in these situations! hugs to you!

gdwtchofnth, you're taking this too seriously. I stand by my definitions and rating system. I'm also 32 and have been to well over 50 international art galleries (best friend is an artist!). I don't think I'm about to change my mind anytime soon (or next year).

Music - would go insane without it
Books - as above, but to a lesser extent
Films - quite enjoy, but not essential
Art - can take it or leave it

Art
Music
Books
Film

Out of all these things, film music and books are all a form of art, so I honestly do not understand how you can say art is irrelevant. You're making yourself look ignorant b/c art is "a product of human creativity." Expand your cultural knowledge a bit beyond the ideas of fingerpainting and clothing design and you'll realize art is all around. (Musicians are now known and "perfoming artists." I went to college for Culinary Arts. I am not just a cook) Art is not a subject that you can be narrowminded in.

Revisit this question a year from now. In the meantime, go out and get cultured and realize all the "arts" you are snubbing.

In order for me

Books ....you can feel the passion and expressions of the author the feelings of people and places being described..I was in India and had a opportunity to touch, look and feel some 14th century Hindu books and scriptures in a temple...it was a wonderfull experience even though i could'nt read Sanskrit

Art....see and feel through the eyes of the painter with every brushstroke whether its a loved one or a place being painted..Seeing paintings from around the world, you can see a snapshot of life from the past immortalized forever

Music...calms and soothes the mind, or gets you up and dancing...makes you think of a person, a special memory of the past or a place you have visited ....Musica delenit bestiam feram

Films ....you can really see the past and the future come to life..films like Braveheart and Gladiator are my favourite..they can make you sad and happy

1. Books (essential for info and interest)
2. Music (enhances life - a close second with art)
3. Art (enhances life but it depends how you define 'art'; I would like to include design and craft)
4. Films (inessential but sometimes fun as well as interesting/inspiring/exciting)

Films (because they can be linked to so much, and they can make you escape from the reality, they mean i have lots of stuff in common with my friends and partner, they are fun)
Music (i love music, and my life wouldnt be the same without it)
Books (so much can be learnt from books if only people would look)
Art (its pretty and beautiful, but its not at the top of my list)

books, music, and films are art. They are all the products of some form of human creation. By "art" I guess you're thinking paintings in a museum? If that's the case, for me it's books, films, music, and then art. But really, it's all art.

2 - music (when i make my own, or when i sing a song that moves me emotionally on my guitar)
1 - books (when i realise that i'm much like some character in the book)
3 - films (when they are psychological and have a message to tell)
4 - art (because it is a value that will never die)

Music.........I play my guitar all the time. It is a part of me. I love listening to all sorts of music and see live bands as much as possible. Major to me. (and i think it is art anyway)

Books......read everyday. On the tube on the way to work. When I'm just relaxing in the quiet. When I can't sleep.

Films......love the cinema. Love curling up on the sofa or in bed with my girlfriend and watching something.....and beats mind numbing TV.

Art......makes me feel intelligent when I stroll around Tate modern and I'm quite partial to picking up a brush and creating a masterpiece of my own every now and then.

1. music- i love listening to music. its my passion and without it, my life wouldn't have the same resonance, and plus it would be boring as well
2. art- one of my hobbies alongside listening to music to name is drawing. i have drawn since i was 10 and prefer drawing celebrities and people and figure drawing especially
3. films- again, this also one of my favourite past times. my favourite genres are drama, comedy, action
4. books- i am getting used to reading more books, though i have recently taken a keen interest in philosophy and cultural studies and a lot of it make for fascinating and intriguing reading and people like karl marx, theodor adorno, pierre bourdieu to name

Music (music is literally my life. to go deaf would be the worst punishment)
Art (I think in terms of art)
Films (so many words [feelings, thoughts...] can be expressed in two hours and thirty minutes)
Books (when I read, it's like watching a film in my head)
