I have to do a paper on the functionalist perspective of racism. One of the functions is “Society must invest a good deal of time and money to defend its barriers to the full participation of all members.” Can someone help me to understand exactly what it means?

when i am at work or when with family and kids,am completely another person.i behave wisely,i keep on giving and giving,i take care of everyone,i handle all others' matters with great care and responsibility.however when am alone,i feel as if am another person.am sad and insecure,am very much down and depressed, and as if i am seeking for something or someone that i can never find. does it seem insane?

I sometimes post QUESTIONS that are aimed toward getting people to express their OPINIONS about various things that are of interest to me.

Do you think I do this to help people who are looking for places to post their thoughts... OR... do you think I do this for selfish reasons?

I think that all ppl should be paid the same for their job regardless of gender. I know that all people are NOT created equal and I believe we should learn to get over it, and embrace that fact so we can be stronger as communities. I think that if you are treated as a lesser individual simply for being a female, you have been dealt a grave injustice. My problem is women in the workplace who come thru and like to pretend they want equality, when they just want equal pay. The types that force employers to set up sensitivity training b/c they want to be treated like dainty little stereotypical women-folk and pretend they are activists for womens rights. They want to reap the benefits of being viewed as an equal, not to be treated like one. Why don't other feminists shut these ppl down? They contribute to the imagery that makes men view women as a lesser being. The inconsistency is so obvious it's comical. I believe that being born should make you a feminist in our society but I can't

I have two reoccuring dreams...

1. I dream about running away from something. But my legs are as heavy as sandbags. As fast as I try to run, I cannot hardly lift my legs. It makes me VERY discouraged.

2. I dream about cheating on my husband. I am VERY content in my marriage so I don't have any clue why I would constantly dream about other men.

WHAT DO THESE DREAMS MEAN??? HELP!!!

We met someone and we're sexually attracted to that person. So we date, get married, have babies. Now we need food, shelter & clothing so we have to work. We need a car to go to work. We need to relax so we go on vacations. We retire from work and then we die. And it all started with sex. Am I being too simplistic that we're in this thing called "life" because it all started with being sexually attracted to someone? What are your thoughts on this?

are the only mammalian species with adornments to attract males?

Seriously. In every other species, the MALE is the one with decorations - peafowl, wood ducks, bower birds, lions, you name it - but human females have non-functional adornments, namely breasts, attractively cantilevered butt flab, etc.

Yeah, I know, all mammals have breasts, but they don't amount to anything in any non-human species unless they are filled with milk. Human women are the only ones that have developed them for show. Same with butts. It's been proven (insofar as it's possible to prove these things, that the SINGLE greatest turn-on for a male is a large differential between the size of a woman's waist and the size of her hips. Yeah, I know they have to have wider pelvises for the childbearing duties, but the cheerleader bubble butt owes more to form following function in terms of attracting a mate than it does to facilitating squirting kids into the world.

Just wondered what you folks think.

i started blowing off just after my hubby complained his tummy was emitting an extraordinary selection of sounds and smells, he said, oh there must have been something wrong with that food we ate last night love...? i turned to him aghast and said, what, with MY food, how dare you! I then explained what i'd observed which was, when one person farts in company, it generally triggers off other peopele's farting shortly thereafter. He looked at me like i was making it up, sorta like the same look Santa gives when you tell him you were a good girl all year? And i said to him, i'm no scientist, i can't explain it, but it's like...a chemical reaction, started by your bottom? am i WRONG? it can't be possible, i'm NEVER wrong!

I am suffering from macular degeneration, and soon will be legally blind.
now I keep on having this dream, that I had an eyetransplant, but when the operation is finished, and I get to look in the mirror for the first time, I totally freak out, because they are not my eyes i am looking into, eventhough they are blue like my own eyes, they look like killer eyes, and it tottaly freaks me out.
can someone tell me what this may mean.
an additional fact is, that I have no health insurance, and this operation, should it become available, is tottaly beyond my means.
Any input would be appreciated.

Ok I posted a question up here (an economics problem)and asked for help from anyone interested. I've bin reading and trying and was desperate enough when i reached out for the last option. Is it really necessary to tell me to 'get my own life and do my own work'???
I didn't even ask for the whole question, just part of it but posted the whole thing in case the parts relate!
Yes, i may even sound more pathetic to be writing this, but personally, i'd never tell anyone the same thing, thinking that the person who asked was in the same situation as i was!

It was difficult to refute what I said so he reported it as a violation. This is relevant: I rented an apartment and parked on the street. One morning a very angry note was taped to my door, complaining about where I parked. He did not ID himself. I knew who it was. I wanted proof, in case he slashed my tire or broke my windshield. I had witnessed his behaviour before. I knew he would need to be provoked to ID himself. I knew he was watching from inside his house. I wrote this message: "If you harass me again, you'll get a visit from the police." I taped it to my truck window. I knew it wouldn't take long for him to show up. It was only a half hour later that he knocked on my door. When I opened it, he began to rant and rave. Though I didn't think it would do any good, I tried to reason with him. It didn't do any good, but I had identified him. It's easier to predict the behaviour of hotheads than it is to predict that of anyone else's. Are they all equally intelligent?

I met two guys at work, both Mexican, we became friends. My neighbors are an Hispanic couple (he from El Salvador, she from Panama) so I introduced them. Next thing I know, all four are going to the movies together and didn't invite me, even though I was the one who introduced them.

Same with Whites, Blacks and Asians.

It sucks to be the only member of your race around. It seems you're always excluded. Why are people like that? :(
