I was fishing recently and there was a bit of rain in the area....some cloud to cloud lightning....we were in an aluminum boat....we start hearing this buzzing noise, kind of like a cicada. it happens for maybe 7-10 seconds and then our hair felt like it was standing up and we felt a whoosh of energy over the top of us and we hear thunder....never saw a flash..another boat about 300 yards away reported the same buzzing noise from their fishing rods back at the launch...how close were we?

Is there a number or rating that tells you how much sunlight or sun power there currently is? (I'm thinking of something where like at night the sunlight is 0, on a cloudy day it is 30-40, on a sunny day the sun rating may be 90+ even if it is winter, etc..) And if so, how is it measured? Do weather services monitor this?

Mid-May and this morning's dew point is 0 Celsius. It's been cold these last few days and will be so for the next few. Not that I'm complaining, I love the brisk weather but what could be causing this in a part of the world like Montreal Ice shelfs breaking off in the arctic??
