I have been in the EYE of three hurricanes-I live in Florida. The eye of the hurricane is calm. However, people are advised to stay inside because the eye will pass over and the high winds will begin again only from the opposite direction. Action taken during a hurricane depends on the category (strength) of the hurricane. Taking shelter inside an inner room is advised for minimal strength hurricanes. Category 2 or 3 hurricanes require evacuation of mobile homes. If the hurricane is category 3 or above, I high tail it out of Dodge.
It is interesting to note that most damage and loss of life is due to the surge of water along the coast rather than the wind.

Although you can stay there as the eye is calm, hurricanes doesn't stay at the same place all the time, as well as it's core.Unless you can predict which direction the hurricane is going and move with it, or else, chance of living is little.
If I'm in that situation, I will pray too.

theoretically, you can stay in the eye of the hurricane forever, moving with it. This, of course, can only last until the hurricane no longer has a distinct eye. At that point it would not be as powerful though =)

Sit and relax. They eye of the hurricane is frequently calm and quiet! It's one way to know the storm is half past you! Now, the walls of the eye, as you reenter the circulation, that's another story...

its called the EYE of a hurricane, and its beautifully calm for about 45 minutes with the sun shining down and a huge wall of black clouds all around you. i'd run for shelter.

Figure out why I was there....
If I made it that far I think I'd be out fortifying whatever was left of the structure that I was in so that when the eye finally moved on I'd be ready for the rest of the storm.

First i would find a interior room in the house/condo than i would just sit down in the interior room and cover my head and pray that i will make it.
