This site says that in the United States a meteorologist may make from $67,504 to $104,414 (figures are for the 25th and 75th percentile), averaging $84,870.

I'm in the wrong profession!

Climatologists are not listed on that site.

At least $50,000 dollars because you need a Bachelor's degree in order to become a meterologist and that is how much people who have those degrees generally make. However, if you hold a graduate degree like Master's or PhD which many people do you can make anywhere from $70,000 to $90,000 per year.

I am not sure about Australia exactly...but I can tell you it depends on where you are working. In the US you can make anywhere from $25,000-$100,000+ (living wage to luxury living wage). It depends on your position, whether you are paid by the government or work for a private company, what facet you are in (forecasting, research, supervision, instruments...).

So if money is a major concern, I would be confident you could find a meteorology job that fits the budget you need.

It mostly depends on what degree you have, and of course where you work.

Those with a bachelors and no experience can make about 27,955 or $34,544. Those with a master’s degree could start at $42,090 or $54,393, and those with a Ph.D. could begin at $70,280.

Median annual earnings of atmospheric scientists in May 2004 were $70,100. The middle 50 percent earned between $48,880 and $86,610. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $34,590, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $106,020.
