What could explain May's unusually cold weather in the gulf of St-Lawrence?

Mid-May and this morning's dew point is 0 Celsius. It's been cold these last few days and will be so for the next few. Not that I'm complaining, I love the brisk weather but what could be causing this in a part of the world like Montreal Ice shelfs breaking off in the arctic??
