I have heard that the human being only uses 10% of their total brain power on average. Where can I find more information about this, and some of the theories and ideas about untapped abilities in the human brain?

We live in an age where reason, empiricism and science - if not exactly eroded, have to some extent, lost the high ground. It is not just the increasing belief in all things mystical and the increasing number of alternative therapies, faith healers and such (I make my nod to Richard Dawkins's current series here) but the way in which science, reason and empiricism have had such a poor showing against non-science, irrationality and everything which lacks empirical evidence; Andrew Wakefield's Lancet paper and the ensuing MMR debacle and Professor Roy Meadow's pronouncement on cot death are just two examples from the field that I work in, I'm sure you have many more from your respective fields.

Are we now on a slippery slope from which there is no way back or is there hope for science? I'd be very interested in your opinions.

Everybody has to share this planet, yet these idiots want to fight about oil and differences and whatnot. It would only be a matter of time before the planet becomes a little too unstable for people to live on it, so we should research more into space and look for habitable planets/moons. Everybody should join forces so we can progress in finding cures for diseases and expand into space as well. Does anybody agree with me?

God commands you all hence to stop putting Mentos inside Dr. Pepper bottles, stop coming up with new and funky condom plastics, and...

Go to a "scientology" church if you must...but go to church...it's only once a week, and you can do your "science" homework during the incredibly long and boring sermon you've all heard many times before...God is taking Roll Call...don't be tardy...

What is that rather strange sound that comes out from a closet next to the elevator?
I'm a receptionist on the 1st floor of the building right next to the elevator. All day I hear a strange "whishhhh" sound everytime someone goes up. And when someone comes down there is a strange "shhhhhhhhh" sound.

As you can see, i'm bored at work right now and i've been hearing it all day.
Sometimes it's really quiet, then all of the sudden "whishhhh"
It startles the hell out me.

While watching the meteor shower a few nights ago, I imagined a streak of light the size of the moon blazing across the sky, a monstrous meteor, maybe even an asteroid striking the Earth. Then I wondered what it would be like if it were actually an object the size of Mars. Needless to say, I shuddered a bit at the thought. Can you top that for sheer horror?

We go on about "for ever and ever" into the future, but surely eternity goes back without end too. (In the same way as infinity is omnidirectional)
So no beginning and no end.
What about creation theory? (Is it a theory?)
What about big bang? (and big bird?)
