While watching the meteor shower a few nights ago, I imagined a streak of light the size of the moon blazing across the sky, a monstrous meteor, maybe even an asteroid striking the Earth. Then I wondered what it would be like if it were actually an object the size of Mars. Needless to say, I shuddered a bit at the thought. Can you top that for sheer horror?

Terrific comment, Yarrek, you got me laughing, even thoughh I might vote for her. But if they somehow gave us four more years of Bush, I'd be praying for that fireball.

Actually, an object around the size of Mars did impact Earth and that's how we got our lovely Moon.
Something more scary... How about something that is going to happen? 5 billion years from now the sun will go into nova and expand into a red hot star. It will swallow Mercury and Venus and make Earth a molten Hell.
Or how about a theory I heard when I was younger... The universe will eventually have so much gravity that the expansion of the universe will halt and eventually collapse in itself. That's a scary thought if you know how to imagen it.
Or we could all get slowly eaten up by toddlers. Wouldn't that be scary?

How about a slow but continuous rise in sea levels until the level reaches the top of Mt. Everest, like over a period of two or three years.
Your cataclysmic event would be over in a heartbeat.
Mine would have people and all other living things killing each other for a dry piece of land to stand on.

That is what they say most likely caused the formation of the moon. An large asteroid of only 20 miles would be millions of times worse than the whole worlds arsenal of nukes. I think the slow death if you were on the other side of the world from something like that would be worse than sudden death from a planetoid but that is just me.

I would think multiple meteor hits would be more horrific, because if you have one monstrous asteroid striking the earth...it's BOOM...and over. With multiple hits, it takes longer. People are looking to the skies wondering where it is going to strike next. They must live with the fallout of the earlier hits...dust, debris, fire, floods, etc.

Being contacted again by my recent ex gf.
Granted that would be MY most horrifying and most cataclysmic event, not yours, but it would still be baaaad. Where's a good meteor when you need one!
