There was an earthquake an hour ago but before it happened, I got dizzy and remained so. This has happened every time we have had sizeable earthquakes in our area and I tend to stay dizzy for a couple hours afterwards. Why would I be so affected? Why would seismic activity make someone dizzy? Thanks :)

It was discovered by a scientist named Richard Muller in 1983. It supposedly orbits our sun in the outer reaches of the solar system. Theory has it, every 26 million years it causes mass extinctions on earth, like for instance, the killing of the dinosaurs. This star should easily be visible from earth. Where? I don't know. What do you think?

Consider two boxes being pulled by a cord across a floor with friction. The lower box has mass m₂ and a co-efficient of kinetic friction μ(k) with the floor. The upper box has mass m₁ and a co-efficient of static friction μ(s) with the lower box. The cord makes an angle Ѳ with the horizontal. Assume that the angle is small enough that m₂ remains in contact with the floor.

1) What is the maximum acceleration such that the little box does not move with respect to the big box
2) Find the tension in the rope in terms of m₁, m₂, μ(k), μ(s), and for this max acceleration
3) Evaluate the tension in the rope at the max acceleration when m₁= 1kg , m₂= 1.5kg , μ(k)= 0.25, μ(s)=0.6 and Ѳ=15

you are designing a decorative lamp to hang in an express elevator. The lamp has three sections that hang one directly bellow the other, connected by thin wires. The lamp is also attached to the ceiling by a single thin wire. Each section of the lamp weighs 5 N . determine the max tension of each wire if the elevator comes to an emergence stop from a speed of 5m/s over a distance of 3.8 m.

If we emerged from a pool of primordial ooze after being struck by lightening and created by mere chance. What chance is it that we are on this Earth for a purpose. We live, we die, we become extinct. For no purpose unless we evolve into a higher life form which seems unlikely. It seems we have stretched eveloution to our limit. It is more likely the cockroach will take over from here. How many say we can take it one more notch and how many are for the cockroach?

How can I tell apart a geometric series from an alternating? Example: ∑ ((-6)^n-1)/(5^n-1), where n =1 and goes to infinity.

∑((-1)^n-1)/(n^6), where n=1 and goes to infinity.

Which is which? Should I just try to identify a and r, and if I get them, then is a geomtric? In other words, if I find the ratio, that proves the series to be geometric?
