Why is it that for a hyperbola
y^2/ a^2 - x^2/ b^2 = 1

we can solve for the asymptotes by solving the equation
y^2/ a^2 - x^2/ b^2 = 1

I know how to find asymptotes, I just want to understand why is it that it can be found by solving the equation
y^2/ a^2 - x^2/ b^2 = 0?

y/a+x/b=0 and y/a-x/b=0 are the two asymptotes
