Does anyone know how to do this problem:

An offshore oil rig well is 4 kilometers off the coast. The refinery is 9 kilometers down the coast. Laying pipe in the ocean is twice as expensive as on land. What path should the pipe follow in order to minimize the cost? Complete the following statement.

The pipe should be laid in the ocean from the rig to a point on the coast_______km from the refinery, then on land the remainder of the distance to the refinery.

Lets imagine that there was a small tube big enough for a human being to go fit that went form the N. Pole to the S. Pole, somehow surviving the core and not effect it. And someone jumps into it, would they fall and end up on the south pole, or would they hover in the middle, or what would happen (assuming he falls fast enough to go throw quickly yet still staying alive) I know its not possible, but was just wondering

A spotlight on the ground is 100 feet from a building that has vertical sides.(length is apparently infinity) A person 6 feet tall starts at the spotlight and walks directly toward the building at a rate of 5 feet per second.

I have no idea how to do this problem, please help!

Two objects of masses m and 4m are moving toward each other along the x-axis with the same initial speeds v0 = 40.0 m/s. The object with mass m is traveling to the left, and the object with mass 4m is traveling to the right. They undergo an elastic glancing collision such that mass m is moving downward after the collision at right angles from its initial direction.

I think have these answers right, but I was wondering if someone could help me make sure...

A is a 3x3 matrix. The null space of A = {The Zero Vector}
Select any of the following that is necessarily TRUE.
There may be more than one right answer.

a. the dimension of the null space = 1
b. the range of A = R^3
c. the columns of A are a basis for R^3
d. A defines a one to one mapping

I'm pretty sure D is true because when the null space is only equal the zero vector the function is one to one, and A must be true because there is only one vector in the null set. I'm pretty sure B and C are not necessarily true, but I'm not positive.

T is a linear mapping from R^3 into R^3.
The range of T is a plane through the origin.
Which of the following describes the null space of T?

a. R^3
b. a plane
c. a line
d. a point

I think it's B because I remember reading that the range is parallel to the domain's null set, but, again, i'm not sure.
