Determine the maximum perimeter of a rectangle inscribed in a parabolic arch modeled by the equation y = 7 - 3x^2 so that the base of the rectangle is along the x-axis.

I have no idea what this problem is asking. Any help?
I don't need the answer, just help on getting it started.
(What is parabolic arch?)

High-voltage power lines are a familiar sight throughout the country. The aluminum (resistivity = 2.82 x 10^-8 Ohm *m) wire used for some of these lines has a cross-sectional area of 4.4 x 10^-4 m^2. What is the resistance of 12 kilometers of this wire?

Rutherford's alpha scattering experiment showed that most alpha particles directed toward a thin metallic foil passed through with only slight deviations. From this evidence we can coclude that
1. mass of the atom is concetrated in a small area
2. alpha particle are uncharge
3. foil too thin
4. alpha particle is type of light should not be deflect

The problem is: Solve for X:

(x+1)^2 (x-3)^2 (x+3)^2 - (x+1)^3 (x-3)^2 (x+3)^2 = 0

Would the (x-3)^2s and the (x+3)^2s just cancel leaving (x-1)^2 - (x+1)^3??

Where do I go from there??

It's well established that it takes an amount of time (about 3 minutes) for a photon to reach the earth from the sun. Relativity says that as an object approaches the speed of light that time, for the object, slows. So it follows that a photon leaving the sun at t=0 arrives at the earth at t=0. This is contradicted obviously by observable evidence. How is this so?

What would

y = -x
y = -x - 4

We're learning to find the distance between parallel lines. My teacher tells us to pick of the y's and she always does the top one, but it's just -x how would that work?

____ are unstable at surface temperatures and break down into clay.

I cant find the answer in any of my notes or the website for the course =(
I was thinking either 'igneous' or 'metamorphic' or I'm not sure if the teacher wanted something more like 'olivine' or something like that.

ideas??
thanks!
