I understand that in the hospital the baby will recieve the eye ointment and vitamin k shot. What else is given in the hospital?
And my husband is very upset about all these vaccinations the baby will need to get soon & within the year. Some of them are normal and I understand, like the booster I am familiar with, and the ones required by law and needed to enter school... but some of the other ones my husband is distressed that they arent nessecary and the guys at work are saying they can cause problems as serious as autism?? Which ones are normal and routine to get and which ones arent needed?

My son will be one year on friday and I am starting to worry about him not having any interest in feeding himself. He is a twin and his sister has been picking up foods and feeding herself for about 2 months now. I have been working with him on picking up the food, and placing it in his mouth, but he still doesnt seem to get it. He wants me to feed him, and i have tried just about all his favorite foods to help him get interested. Is this normal, and if anyone else has had the same problem, what did you try to initiate self feeding??

I tried rice cereal at first, but it seems to make my baby constipated... my baby is five and a half months and has been breastfed only. I was going to wait till six months to start solids but he has shown a real interest in our food and when I fed him some rice cereal to see how he does, he loved it. He wanted more and more but I only gave him a teaspoon full because that's what I have read you should start them with. After only two night-time feedings of one teaspoon full rice cereal followed by breastmilk, my baby stopped pooing for a week!!! I stopped the rice cereal after the two feedings because he didn't go and I thought that was strange. We had to give him a glycerine suppository which worked. He went the day we gave it him and the next day and now it's been five days again since he has had a bowel movement and I am becoming concerned again. I really would like to be able to start the solids because my breastmilk is very low at night and he still seems very hungry.

when you prop their bottles instead of holding them while they eat?

I have never, even after three kids, ever propped a bottle. My neighbors have been propping the bottle for their daughter since she was about 2 months old. I went over there last night and they had her lying on a blanket on the floor with a bottle propped up with a blanket under her chin, shes 4 months old now. I can't imagine not holding my baby and looking into his eyes while he eats. She said she props it because that is her time to do things around the house, I think that the bonding time while feeding your baby is much more important then getting a few things picked up while they are eating.

Do you prop a bottle or not, why or why not?

I have a 9 month old baby who won't sit on her own for more than 2 minutes. She won't stay in her play pen, won't sit in her crib, not in her high chair, not anywhere! She used to like playing on the floor on a mat, but she's bored of it now. She wants to be in my arms all day long. Right now it's 1:00 in the afternoon, and I haven't had lunch or breakfast yet. I don't know if I'll have time to finish this question...
She 's getting worse instead of better. I keep buying her new toys to get her interested, but that only lasts for a few minutes.
I think I'm going crazy! How am I supposed to clean, cook, or get anything done? Any ideas on how to keep her interested to play on her own for more than few minutes? Is anyone else going through this? I feel like I'm doing something wrong, but I can't let her cry...

I am due to have my little girl in January and want her to have breast milk so she can have the best possible start in life. I really dont like the thought of her feeding from my breast though and wondered if it is possible for me to just pump all her milk (recently brought a breast pump) or does she have to have the first milk from the breast?

A good friend of mine was expecting her first baby. Unfortunetly the baby was stillborn. I would love to hear from other people (mothers, fathers, grandmothers, aunts - anybody) who has been effected by stillbirth, and to know what things I can say and do for her. What helped? What was the wrong things people said? When were you ready to start seeing people socially and that sort of thing?

I'm no longer going to be breastfeeding my son - do I just let my breasts get engorged and dry up? or do I pump a little to bring them down?
(I'm just getting over mastitis .. I don't want it to come back)
If I quit cold turkey will the mastitis come back???
and how long until my milk completely dries up?

My son is 2 months old (and has been breastfed).. I got mastitis in my left breast and now my milk supply has gone way down. I'm supplementing with formula but my breast milk is getting lower by the day so I'm going to have to switch to only formula.
(I use Enfamil Lipil and am going to put him on Enfamil GentleEase)
I know breastmilk is the best form of food .. but I can't do it anymore. I feel bad enough about putting him on formula (so please no rude answers about not giving him breastmilk) ..
I just want to hear from moms who formula feed their babies and hear how their babies are doing on it! (meaning ONLY formula fed, not substitued with breastmilk)
thanks!

I am 26 weeks and look at different websites to see what is developing with our baby. A couple have said that babies actually breath the amniotic fluid to get the response to involuntarily breath once they are born and to work the lungs. Is this true has anyone heard this before.

I am watching one of my friends baby who is 4 months old. She said that when she gets fussy and doesnt really want anything but just to cry she will give her some tylenol. When I asked her how much she gave her at a time she said to the 0.8 line! I feel that that is a lot of tylenol for a baby. And she isnt sick or anything!! It just makes her tired and then go to sleep. I dont really know what to tell my friend because it is her baby but I can't give her any, it just doesnt feel right! I would like to bring it up to her but not really sure if this is harmful or not- so I guess I was just wondering if anyone knows what could happen, if anything? Thank you for all you help!

My wife and I are moving across the country less than two months after we have our first child. We are considering buying a portable crib or a bassinet instead of a regular crib for the first couple of weeks.

When we went to look at portable cribs, the mattress seemed pretty flimsy compared to the regular cribs. Would it be safe for a newborn to sleep in a portable crib for that long? Should be try to find something with a firmer mattress --like a bassinet or a regular crib?

1.) my daughter hates tummy time, the dr said to have her on her tummy for 10 mins at a time 3 times a day, but she screams and cries, she seems miserable, i hate to watch her cry, she gets so angry that she moves herself around, by kicking her legs.what can i do to encourage her to like it? will her lack of enthusiasm delay her when it comes to crawling, holding her head up and walking?

2.) we finally graduated to eating ( breastfeeding) every 3 hours about 11 days ago, but for the last couple of days during the daytime she cries with hunger about every 2. what does this mean? is she having growth spurt?

Is it really true that you're supposed to stop bottlefeeding at 6 months and ue a cup instead?
I breastfeed my baby but I give him formula at the evening feed, so at 6months I will have to feed him in a cup?
I don't understand the reason for doing this, b/f babies are allowed the comfort of a breast for 2 years+, but bottlefed babies must have their comforting bottle taken at 6months? Why?

My 2 month old has been eating 6-12 oz of formula every 3-4 hours, is this normal? I feel like she's eating us out of the house, figurativly speaking. I mean she goes through a Parent's Choice size can w/in a week, sometimes less. The doctor said that she can have 1/2 tsp of rice cereal in her bottle, but that doesn't seem to be enough. She has regular BMs. I just don't know what to do anymore. Any advice?

About an hour and a half ago I posted a question about my daughter. I just got off the phone with the hospital and they said she has a very bad case of RSV. They said it is common in preemies which she was born at 36 weeks. They said she will have to stay in the hospital for a couple days-2 weeks. I dont no much about RSV but plan on doing some research about it but if you have any info on it feel free to let me no. I am leaving soon but will take the lap top so if you want you can email me at holmesmajessica@yahoo.com or my myspace is www.myspace.com/avasmommy14... ok well after the / it is avasmommy14 for some reason it isnt showing it.
