Newborn & Baby - September 2007

Anyone else have newborns take forever to eat? I have twins, so yes, I realize it will take twice as long. However, each takes up to an hour, sometimes more to eat. I seems like sometimes they want to eat, rest for 30-45 minutes, then eat again. So, I am feeding them all day! They were born preemie, so I know I have to take that into account, but just wondering about your newborns eating habits. Thanks.

My daughter is extremely small. She's not malnurished or anything, she was steadily gaining and at 6 months she suddenly stopped. They're testing her for all sorts of different things, mostly genetics.
However, she's 9 months now and she's been through all the stage 1 & 2 and has started table foods. Suddenly these last few days she has been refusing dinner ... and I'm freaking out. She needs to gain weight and now shes' not eatting I'm at my wits end. I've started feeding her these beechnut baby foods that are just cut up really soft meats, potatoes and other veggies, she really like them yesterday, today shes' choking on it, because shes' crying so hard.
I haven't shown her that I'm frustrated I smile and keep offering a variety of foods, but I'm really starting to worry.
My doctor forbade me to nurse her at night and told me to give her solids before the breast at all times, but now she seems to want nothing but the breast. I don't know what to do!

Anyway I have tried creams with none helping him. I just tried corn starch tonight to see it that helps... but my question is if it is a yeast infection can I ust Monistat on him??? He is only a little over a month old and I was wanting to make sure it wouldn't hurt him if I tried this. Thank you for your answers.

Hello....
my stepmother had a beautiful baby girl yesterday, born at around 7am.

and guess what? me and the baby share the same birthday!
(i just turned 13 yesterday =] )

see, the thing is, my stepmom is a little worried about the baby, because this is her FIRST child. and my dad, well... he doesn't know much about baby care.

How can i help my father and his wife, besides changing diapers? Are there any important tips they should know?

we are having our first baby at the end of dec beginning of jan. so we won't be going out much after he is born because of the cold and all of the germs. what should i stock up on for us? we have all the baby stuff but compared to a little baby it seems like us adults will need a lot more stuff? what should i get for groceries, bath stuff, things i might need after delievery that i can't think of?if we don't have everything it's alright because daddy can get it when he goes to work but i would like to know the basics. what types of food should we get? did you feel like cooking after you had your baby or should i get easy stuff? what about stuff for showering and bathing? i keep thinking i'm forgetting stuff. i want to buy all the non-food items soon so we can have them in advance. thanks for the help.

I think it would be really cute, but I also feel we should wait till she is older and can take care of them herself. Also, she is only six months old, i'm scared that she would pull on her ears and maybe rip them out. I just would like your advice on this situation. Thank you. Please no rude comments

Right now I'm in the process of throwing a Baby Shower together for my younger Sister-In-Law with the help of her Family. Which brings up the question, does each pregnancy deserve a Baby Shower or is it only with the 1st Baby? My other older Sister-In-Law says I'm out of luck because she says people don't throw Baby Showers for the 2nd Baby because the second Baby isn't a big deal. I, however, disagree. I think that each baby is a blessing and deserves the proper celebration like any other. Is my Sister-In-Law just being spiteful and jealous because she was only able to have one or does what she say hold some truth. Please advise. Thank you!!!

How can you protect your newborn from cats?? I'm afraid mine might jump in his crib!?

I haven't had him yet, but I will, so now I'm worrying about how I will protect him from my cats. They always get into the bed with me so I'm scared that they will scale the sides of his crib and jump in with him, which is very dangerous because of SIDS, plus they could smother him. Also for the first 3 months he will sleep in a bassinet, so how do I protect him then as well?

I have a 4 month old son. My husband and I work separate shifts that we can take care of the baby. Well, my elderly parents live with us, and thus far, my mother has been watching the baby while my husband sleeps. He complains that it's hard for him to wake up to tend to the baby and then fall back asleep. He has a long commute to work, so my mother was willing to help, but I'm getting angry because it seems like he's just full of excuses. (He has time to go out with friends while I'm home taking care of the baby, tho.)
I blew up at him yesterday so now he's behaving, but saying he couldn't sleep and can't go to work today or else he'll have a car accident.
I suggested bringing the baby to his mother's on certain days, but am uncomfortable with the idea because that requires the baby to sleep over on the days my husband will be working. Why should I have to sacrifice time with my son because he can't fall asleep?
What should I do?

I took her to the doctor on Friday for shots and I asked about some bumps that had formed on her back and stomach. She told me that it was ____ ____ syndrome. I can't remember the name. She said it happens in kids under 5. It is bumps that come sometimes with itching and sometimes without. It can last from 10 days to 6 months. They have since covered her legs and arms and now on to her face. I want to look it up online to get more information but I can't remember the name and the doctor hasn't returned my call yet.

our daughter is 5 weeks old, when I brought her home she slept on her back just fine, but now she is starting to notice her world and of course is now a bit more lively, and we have started tummy times, and side times, etc, as a result, lately when I put her down for her sleeping times and at night, she fusses, and if while holding her you hold her in the crook of your arm on her back she fusses till you lay her on your shoulder, when she is in her stroller, she fusses, until we turn her onto her stomach, she then quiets down and goes right to sleep...what do we do? she will not fall asleep at night unless we lay her on her stomach, now, when she falls into a deep sleep we are then able to turn her onto her back and keep her sleeping, but my fear is we will end up falling asleep ourselves before turning her over, she also likes to sleep on her left side, what do I do?
