and sometimes do weird movements. At one point, my daughter was crying because she wasn't feeling well and started shivering constantly....I thought she was having a seizure! I immediately took her to the dr. and her ped. told me what I said above. Anyone else experience this with their babies/ kids?

Yep, my son is a shiverer. He like shutters out of the blue. My brothers did the same.

Its not seizures, it is them expressing themselves. They usually do it when they pee, or have a weird gas bubble, and some times when it happens they realize theyre doing it and can later do it on will.

It freaked me the hell out when he first started doing it all the time, but then I started to notice he did it while looking at something interesting, or when something exciting was happening. Its a form of expressing their amazing new bodies.

It is normal. Even with the fever, they get the shivers from the cold of the fever. My son JUST got over roseola, and he was doing the same thing.

ITs okay :)

Hi, my daughter is 1 month, and every now and again when I am holding her or she is in her bouncy seat her legs would start to shake, it happens like at least 5-6 times a day, first I thought it was from cold, but then it did it when she was covered, then I thought she was moving, but it did it when she was asleep....so finally I took her to the ped, and they said sometimes the nerve may get hit the wrong way, but that didn't satisfy me either, and then it happened, I was changing her diaper and she peed before I could get the other diaper on, and ....her legs shook while she was peeing.

I experienced that with my first born daughter when she was about 10 months old. It was scary! I was running my garage sale & she started to shake like crazy. I closed up my sale to rush her to the emergency room. But, she stopped before I could get there. I was talking with her doctor on the way. I was told that if she was not still shaking when I brought her in that they could not do anything about it. So, I sheduled an appointment to see the doctor instead. I was told that it might only happen a few times, but if it keeps on happening that she would have to be evaluated for seizure disorder. It happened a few more times & then never happened again. I think that your doctor meant that your baby was just very fussy saying that babies are discovering themselves when they shake & cry.

How old is the pediatrician? Are you sure there isn't something else worrying the doc? You're right, not all kids crawl - certainly my youngest scooted, and one leg was much bigger then the other, it all evened out after he began walking. And I knew a little girl who scooted backwards, and she's fine, or my nephews who bear crawled until they walked and they are very active in sports. I'd let it go unless he is not walking by 18 months myself, or think about getting a different pediatrician. Then again, sometimes doctors get nervous when they see something that reminds them of another worrisome patient who needed more care later, whether or not if it's warranted.

Unless she is actually cold then no I wouldn't consider it normal, particularly as she isn't enjoying it. If it was making her laugh then yes I could see saying that she is doing it on purpose. But its making her cry and most kids are smart enough not to do things that they don't enjoy.

I would get a second opinion. You could try taking her to your own doctor if you like him/her. At least then you are seeing someone you know and you shouldn't have to wait.

I have worked in daycare facilities, had a daycare home, have taken care of my children, and grandchildren, and I am a professional nanny. I would have to say no I haven't ever seen this happen unless they had a chill from a fever.

If you don't trust your pediatrician, perhaps you should get another doctor. He (or she) has told you what the problem is. If you're not satisfied with that explanation, talk to another professional.

is she probably cold, has a fever or something? if your not completely convinced with what the pediatrician says and you notice it happening more often, you should seek a second opinion from another pediatrician.
