You can use monistat-just be sure it is the 7 day kind and apply a light coat. If you are not comfortable doing this you can go to your baby's doc and get a prescription for Nystatin. My doc just says to use the Monistat only if I am sure that it is yeast.

If you think it is a yeast infection, don't use diaper rash cream or baby powder on it. My son just got over a really bad one. It got so bad because I thought it was just diaper rash and was using cream and powder. Apparently that makes it worse, according to the pedi. I was told to use Hydrocortisone and another perscription only creme every two hours (alternating between the two). Within one day the redness was gone and my son was feeling much better. I'd recommend getting him seen asap, as if it is a yeast infection it can spread. If it IS just diaper rash, you'll feel better knowing that a little A&D is all you need.

This exact same thing happened with my daughter. I tried everything until finally I listened to my mother, who had suggested from the beginning I use zinc oxide cream, which is found in diaper rash cream, but she said to just get it by itself. I got it at Walgreens, and my daughter's yeast infection was almost all gone by the next day, and the day after that it was gone. I guess I got a few as a baby and it really helped me. I've had friends who have had babies with really bad rashes and now they will only use zinc oxide cream because it works the best, and really really fast. I got an e-mail from a mom on this site who used zinc oxide telling me it worked super fast too, better than the prescription her doctor gave her.

No, they will give you a perscription diaper rash cream called nystatin. Does he have white on his tongue that doesn't wipe off? It could be thrush (which is also a very common yeast infection in infants). I would go to your pediatrition either way. If no diaper rash creams work, it is probably a yeast infection. My daughter had a yeast infection. Zinc oxide did not work.

My daugter in law just had a really bad diaper rash that even after using desitin it didn't seem to get better so at her doctors appt. her doctor prescribed her some cream (he said she had yeast infection) and told her mom to mix the cream and some diaper rash cream she bought from the store and put it on her butt. It cleared up in about 3 days. I'd get a prescription for your baby's doctor.

My son just had thrush and had the diaper rash. He is 4 months old and my doctor said to use Lotrimin very sparingly on his bottom. It is an antifungal found near foot stuff in the drugstore. Also I got Triple Paste and coated his butt and even the cracks of his legs because it can spread so easily. The Triple Paste is kind of pricey, BUT it is awesome! It worked within 2 days.

wait til the morning, call your dr's office and speak to a nurse there. She will tell you very helpful info to get your baby's bottom back to normal =)
in the mean time, change him often, put a dab of a&d ointment on his rash and keep him happy =) I found that a&d worked better than creams with zinc in them. less harsh
