Not the greatest.
Double electric are great....
there are some that can be safely be reused - if that is a route you'd like to take... make sure they've NOT been labeled by the FDA as "single user" or "single patient" devices.
They have a closed system that does not allow milk to get trapped anywhere!!
Ameda Purely Yours has a closed system... either you can buy one used, or buy it new, then legally resell it to get some of your money back.
In the US, it is actually illegal to sell one of these "single user" labeled pumps. So check w/ the manufacturer before investing in a new one, or buying one used (or borrowing/taking a hand me down)

Manual pumps are great as you obviously have control over exactly what pressure is used when expressing. The only downside that I've come across is that they never fully express all the milk and it's sometimes hard work to get it to flow. They are however a lot cheaper than the electric ones!
For this baby, I've just bought an Avent ISIS iQ electric pump which starts off with manual control then you let the automatic pumping take over. Apparently it then remembers how is easier for you to have milk expressed and does the same every time. I haven't used it yet but it may be worth looking into!
Another thing to consider is expresssing at work, a friend of mine has found a manual pump much easier for that as it's obviously quieter.

I exclusively pump to feed my baby. If you plan on doing that, even for 3 months then do not use a manual...you will tire yourself out so quick it won't even be funny! I had a "First Years" electric breast pump originally but it hurt like hell and so I switched to a Medela (the Pump in Style version). It is the best investment I ever made. You can find it on Amazon.com for cheaper than in the stores. I paid $250 at Babies R Us but they're known to be on the expensive side. However, if you're just gonna use a manual to relieve engorgement or express whatever is left in your breast after feeding than try the manual. FYI...almost every hospital gives a breastfeeding mother a free manual pump after birth. Good luck and kudos to you for wanting to give your baby the best start in life with breast milk!!

A good manual pump is the Avent Isis. If you want a sturdy, electric pump, I recommend the Medela Pump In Style or Pump in Style Advanced.

A hospital grade breast pump is the best because it works very efficiently in a small amount of time and there is less chance of damage to the breast tissue. Although, they can be very expensive to purchase. Most hospitals offer a breast pump rental that you may want to check out. We paid $50/month for a rental from our hospital, but it was definitely worth it because the cheaper electric pump that I had took a long time to get milk out and it hurt to use.

I don't really know anything about manual pumps, but I use the Lansinoh double electric breast pump. It works great and is very easy to use. It costs $150.00 and you can buy it at Target. There are pumps that actually cost around $350.00. Mine is on the cheaper end, but I have been very satisfied with it.
