gynaecologist in Venice has been ordered to pay child maintenance to a patient who had an unwanted pregnancy following the failure of a sterilisation operation.

Dr Ruggero Pasqualetto must pay a total of 105,000 euros, around £70,000, to his patient

He has been ordered to pay £8,000 in court costs, with the balance as compensation for psychological stress suffered and maintaining the child during his school years.

The patient

Additional Details

The patient, identified only as Signora A.S., a housewife married to a builder, already had two children when she gave birth to a baby boy on New Year's Eve, 1996, despite having undergone an operation on her fallopian tubes to prevent further pregnancies.

Pasqualetto had utilised a rare technique, injecting a kind of surgical "super-glue" under local anaesthetic, to close the fallopian tubes, a less invasive method than the traditional surgery.

He claimed he explained to Signora A.S. that there was a 15 in a 1,000 chance that the procedure wouldn't work, but the patient denied this to the court.

'Obligation'

Dr Pasqualetto said: "It's quite a rare technique here (in Italy) but is routine in the USA."

My son's in care four days a week. I checked several other centres and would not have put my son into them, even though they are different branches of the same company. The women where he is are of such a high calibre and I have always been very impressed with the care they take of the kids there; they really do make an extra effort and have helped my son with his small bout of separation anxiety to the best of their ability.

I'd like to show my appreciation with perhaps a small gift for x-mas, but I don't know what would be appropriate and I don't want to overstep the bounds. Do you have any suggestion? I did think a donation to a kids' charity in their names might be a good idea.

Thank you.

My almost 3 year old daughter got ahold of a pair of scissors today while I was doing the dishes, Needless to say she cut it, pretty bad! It took her forever just to grow some hair and now I don't know what to do. She cut it everywhere but in the back, parts on top are not even an inch long! Advice? Other than to keep the scissors up, which btw they were, she's just a very sneaky child and a climber!

for ADD/ADHD. Even natural food chemicals in so called "healthy foods" can effect behaviour and learning as can preservatives, colours, flavours etc. It's hard work but I feel that some parents go for the easy drug option. I have also read many posts on here saying that they've tried different drugs and they don't work properly, they wear off or behaviour isn't getting much better. Some say their kids turn into quiet zombies etc. Is drugs really the only option?

I need a new car seat because the one we have doesn't fit our car. I don't know what to do. I can't return the car seat, because we bought it too long ago. The funny is that the car seat fits forward facing, but not rear facing.

Do you guys mind gays? They are people, they might like the same sex. But, who are we to judge? I think it's sad, when people hate gays, only because they like the same gender. I know it makes some people to feel uncomfortable, then don't hang out with them. If you don't like gays, then how would you feel if people hated just because you like the same sex? What's your opinion on this? And for people that are religous, Isn't everyone gods child? Black or white? Gay, bi, or straight? My only reason for asking this is because I have an older brother thats gay and people treat him like garbage.

Every night when my partner gets home from work and is sitting down having dinner, our really starts acting up,jumping all over him and kicking his dinner etc!!

I kno it doesnt sound like such a big deal but it`s really putting a massive strain on our relationship as he starts getting annoyed and my son seems to enjoy it even more and eventually all hell breaks loose and me and my partner end up arguing or not speaking to each other.

We split up a while back and have been back together for 3 months, our son is 4 and has slight learning difficulties so cant speak,he also seems to get a bit annoyed when me and his dad sit together and cuddle,we do give him plenty of attention though but do you think this could be his way of getting back at us for splitting up,answers appreciated, thanx.

okay a little more detail to the story....
i was on birth control for almost 2 years, but i have not been taking it for the last couple moths. i always use a condom. but the other night me and my bf had sex without one. he pulled out, but i know that there is still pre ***, so i am worried i might be pregnant. i also was on my period about 2 weeks ago. so i should be ovulating right about now. and plus since i was on b.c before, i heard i have a higher fertilitly now. well ne ways long story short i wanted to know what the chances of me getting pregnant are.

my g/f has tried to breast feed our 2 day old son with bad results as her nipples are a little bit to big to fit inside his mouth. we have talked to midwives and doctors but they don't seem to care (that's the NHS for you!), they just say keep trying...
because the baby is not latching on properly, it's very painful for my g/f and hence her nipples are getting more swollen.. (baby will not even drink from a bottle but he will drink ONLY from a cup (is he just lazy?))
please please give us some advice on what we can do as my g/f really wants to breastfeed.

he hasn't taken naps for awhile, he wakes up around 9 am and if we are in the car around 1 he falls asleep, if he are at home he is awake until 8:30 9 pm. He refuses to take a nap, he has separation anxiety, but a lot less from before. He just screams and cries, and we had his sister in march when he was 17 months he stll didn't sleep then, but I can't deal with him and then try to take care of the baby ( it takes about an hour to get him to sleep) I tried to dim everything and it doesn't work, should I just let him be? He is not tired at all, and runs around plays a lot, and has a normal childhood, is this okay? Is there any other people with children at 2 that do this?

It's not that I dont like girls, but being our first baby, my husband and I were very excited to have a baby boy first.
and now that i know i'm having a girl, i feel kind of sad and disapointed about it.
I don't imagine myself with a girl. I'm not as excited as i was before with my pregnancy....I fell so bad to have this feeling.
I'm 20 weeks, and thank God everything is good in my pregnancy and the baby....that should be what matters. But I can't stop feeling kind of sad anyways.
please, any advise?

My daughter is 2 1/2. She can be incredibly "rotten". She spits on whatever she wants to while shes looking at you tell her no. She cut the cats foot with a pair of sissors she found (agreed that that was my fault), she will pick up her brothers drink and deliberatly pour it on the floor. When I tell her no she smiles at me and continues to do whatever it is she isn't suppose to. I've tried time out, I've tried little "pops on the butt", I've tried ignoring her, I've even tried pretending to cry. I also have a son that is almost 13 and he is completely opposite her...always has been. I am at a loss. Some of her behavior just seems to be a little above and beyond a normal "terrible 2" . .........Oh yeah...and the fits she throws , at home and in public...awful and they last forever an hour or two sometimes. Only serious advice please. Thanks a lot.

I want to get a flu shot tomorrow to protect my family. Question is, I know the vaccine contains thimerosal. Does it affect my breast milk? I'm very concerned. I've also asked several doctors for the mercury free version, but no one seems to have it.

Can I still get my shot? Would it protect her as well?
