People seem to be under the impression that we can "win" this "war". What does win mean? How do we know if we have won? Who are we defeating?

I just saw "Lions For Lambs", the movie with Tom Cruise, Meryl Streep, and Robert Redford. I'm not sure if the movie is heavy-handed or not direct at all. To be honest, I didn't come away with any strong feelings after the movie.

Does the movie make a legitimate case for the war on terror, or is the Tom Cruise character just trying to dupe another reporter so he can get into the White House?

The reason I'm asking about this in the Politics section (rather than Entertainment) is that I don't want a critique about how well or badly the movie was made, but rather to understand the political message from the movie.

Was the movie supposed to be optimistic about prevailing in the war on terror? Is the Tom Cruise character really committed or is he on an ego trip? Why was the Meryl Streep character so suspicious about his motives?

What about the Robert Redford character? Why is he so interested in having his student join the fight?

Both sides just need to get over themselves. All either extreme is doing is spouting spin and trying to out semantic the other with clever quipping. Neither group does anything but sideline and distract and honestly it just sends this country into a tailspin.
Why not look for productive solutions that require just an ounce of Common Sense instead of regurgitating the same tired crap?

CARACAS, Venezuela — Humbled by his first electoral defeat ever, President Hugo Chavez said Monday he may have been too ambitious in asking voters to let him stand indefinitely for re-election and endorse a huge leap to a socialist state.

A few malcontent libs grouse every year about nativity scenes and Christmas trees. If they are "offended" by this why don't they truly walk the walk and work on Christmas day? And, why aren't they petitioning to have Christmas Day defrocked as a holiday? Can't have your cake and eat it too!

I think the Democrats would, but maybe that's because I'm kind of liberal. It seems to me that the Republican party uses negative advertising to try and turn people off to the political process.

Thanks for staying the course Mr. President. History will record, once again, how you and the Military were right and the useful idiots on the left were wrong.

"Murtha's comments on 'surge' are a problem for House Democrats

Rep. John Murtha (D-Pa.), one of the leading anti-war voices in the House Democratic Caucus, is back from a trip to Iraq and he now says the "surge is working."
