This country has been on a steady move away from God...for the last 40 years God has been removed from our schools...there are now people who have NEVER been in a home where Jesus or the bible is read and they have never been to church...in the 40's and 50's teachers reported the major problems in class was chewing gum and talking without raising their hands...today, we all wonder when and where the next Columbine will happen..and yet, people refuse to see the coalition. Revelation teaches us that during the end times man will be like they were during Noah's time before God destroyed man with a flood....I'd say we're pretty close to that now.

Earnest....you are going about this the wrong way....You are using logic...they don't understand it.
Try this approach.....
How many of you, who do not want Christmas to be anywhere but in the home or church, have been to those GREAT, BIG sales the day after Thanksgiving? And how many more GREAT, BIG sales will you attend between now and December 25th?
If you don't want Christmas.....well....then let's do away with the sales FOR Christmas!
Sheez...people try a little tolerance! It's not like we're forcing you at gun point to stop and look at the Nativity or forcing you to celebrate Christmas! For crap's sake, you all take the 25th of December off....and I know...it's a federal holiday...but ah...it's only a federal holiday because of the DAY THAT IT IS!
How bad could it possibly be to have a peaceful day, but once a year??

All of what you say may be true, but that doesn't change the fact that we have freedom of or from religion. Just because seeing a nativity scene is neither terrifying nor painful doesn't mean you can be forced to have to deal with seeing one at your local town hall. Just because praying in school is likely to do more good than harm doesn't mean we should enforce it everywhere, because that's against our rights. You're basically advocating that since you find nothing wrong with Christianity it's OK to expose everyone to it, and for the state to endorse it, and that's a back door way of getting the entire population to accept and follow it. Quite frankly, if it was so great, we'd all be good devout little Christians. This is why the choice is important. The state should not publicly embrace any faith, it should allow people to choose the one (or none) that they like.

I know a cop who was stabbed by a Santa Claus.
None of that changes the fact that this is said right in the first amendment "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof" which in many many cases has been interpreted to mean that the Government cannot support one religion over the other. WHO CARES if your local courthouse can't have a nativity scene. Go put two up in your yard. No one is stopping you.
I bet you'd be offended if the gov't put a big banner over the white house saying "praise Allah"

I was also raised in the Jewish Faith and have never been insulted or anything else by public displays of anyone's religion. Freedom of Religion doesn't necessarily equate to freedom from religion.
If the loopy left really wants to push this I say OK. Start with Congress. No more holiday breaks for them. No Christmas Break, No Easter Break, no nothing. Schools should be in session on all these holidays and if you're scheduled to be at work on a holiday, you'd better be there.

I am risking the combined progress that only 12 years of intensive psychotherapy can bring to relate my nighmarish and terrifying relationship with nativity scenes.
You see, when I was young, I saw the horror movie, "Children of the Corn". Well, in the corn field was a scarecrow, which is filled with hay, the same material used in those spine-chilling nativity scenes. Yes... the baby Jesus was cradled in the very same material.
Just seeing a nativity scene ensures I will have dreadful nightmares. They should be outlawed for the sake of everyone like me who suffers from E.H.A (Extreme Hay Aversion). This debilitating syndrome affects one in every 650,000 people worldwide, so there are hundreds of sufferers like me out there.
It is my undying hope that all Christian holiday displays will someday be replaced by safe, non-hay-containing Kwanza, Ramadan, and Hannukah displays.

84% of Americans are Christians. This Christian will put up that tree, the manger and the star of Bethlehem will be in the yard, and my Christmas cards will say "Merry Christmas"... they will not say "Happy Holidays". And as long as no one infringes on my rights, I don't give a flying fig what they do or do not believe. By the way, MERRY CHRISTMAS!

I was raised Jewish, and I can honestly tell you that even though I did not grow up believing in Jesus Christ, I was NEVER offended by Christmas, the Nativity, prayer in school or anything like that.
I married a Christian, and now we are officially Lutherish (half Lutheran, half Jewish) and we actively practice BOTH religions with our daughter.
Moreover, one of my best friends is Mormon and we always go to the Christmas celebration with her at her church - it is lovely!
Also, another of my best friends is Muslim, and we go to their house during Ramadan to share in their evening meal with them.
Our views about religion are "live and let live" and how someone else worships or chooses not to worship is their own decision. I am not offended one way or the other.

No, what's more important is that 5-10% of the population dictate the way that the other 90-95% live.
We have to fend off this non-sense of "Political Correctness"!
This nation was founded on Christianity regardless of what non-sense you hear by the liberals.
And for those of you that don't believe in God, you won't mind working for the rest of us while we observe this time, right?
Afterall for you it's just another day right?
Hope your not shopping or celebrating, that would be hypocritical of you.

I've seen enough self-professing christians on YA to know that America isn't a Christian country.
As for the rest, I couldn't agree more. I love the Christian traditions around Christmas... and, in fact, Christmas is ONLY a Christian celebration. If it's called something else, if it IS something else... then it's no longer Christian... and it's no longer Christmas.
And I'm just fine with that. I'm not fine with anyone co-opting "Christ's-mass"
