I am kinda shocked, but I guess we can use this as evidence that it's possible for Chavez to be democratic and fair. You might think it outrageous that people might vote for such a thing, but 49% did. Here in the US, we have Hillary supporters. That's just about as dumb.

Wasn't this supposed to be a sure thing for Hugo??? He knew what was best for Venezuela, didn't he?? Weren't his programs the only ones wthat made sense?

It shows that Chavez's Venezuela is probably more democratic than our rhetoric and propaganda give him credit for. Let's hope he abides by the election results.

It was a referendum on removing term limits. Perhaps you were misled by the "liberal media" that it was some kind of referendum to declare Chavez king and permanent ruler of Venezuela.

Hero worship got Hitler into power,and if you think aboout it many,many dictators won popular appeal at some stage.
What they represented themself to stand for did not necessarily have much to do with what they turned into.
Its hard to believe that at one point in time George W. Bush looked like a good idea to a lot of people. Fortunately we have recourse unless he succeeds in (his party's) take-over attempts.
