Remind everyone that the drugs in Canada are the exact same made by the exact same companies but much cheaper.
Defenition of over priced means priced 10X more just because they are on this side of the border.

Yeah all that R&D money is going for better and more competitive drugs like viagra and advertising them on TV. Profits is what it's all about. Don't forget that those drugs that are available for a lot cheaper in Canada are made in the USA. We just pay more for them because of our for profit health care system.

No. It is however very difficult for Americans to buy US-made products. Even if the products are assembled in the US many of the parts are manufactured overseas. Smaller manufacturers also often cannot compete when they are being undersold by corporations that manufacture abroad. Despite their good intentions, they too have to relocate their manufacturing. The Republicans however will not allow any legislation that addresses outsourcing and foreign manufacturing of goods. Republicans have already dramatically demonstrated this in Congress by opposing Democratic efforts. The Democrats don't have enough votes to overcome a Republican filibuster.

Y E S, but this also depends on what health insurance that you have and also on what type of drugs that you have to have in order to maintain
your quality of life. Also the politicians mean other items besides drugs!!

How do you define overpriced?? I would think ALL liberals would be happy paying more for the same thing others can get cheaper. After all isn't it our obligation to help everyone else out? Besides, importing drugs over the border is illegal just like immigrants crossing over illegally. I hope they prosecute you if that is what you are doing.

Brickity, where did you get that info?? I work for a big pharma... Most of our research is done at our facility.

The Canadian government bargains with big pharma to get price controlled drugs. Americans pay extra to subsidize the cheaper drug prices in other countries. If you go to Canada and get your drugs, you'll screw up big pharma's profit flow. So what if you have to pay $5000 for a pill to treat your rhumetoid arthritis? You're American, YOU must pay it or die!

Exactly what it means. I am in favor of this to a point. it is like the " shop at home " campaigns this time of year in a lot of communities in my area. I do to a point but expect our local business people to be competitive with prices.

They can't...many of them own stock in those Canadian drug companies...same as some own Saudi oil stock and Chinese company shares as well.

Why politicians have to tell us in the first place what to buy? Unless they were paid off by US drug companies.

Yes. Someone has to pay for the R&D and since we're still one of the richest countries on the planet that job falls to us. No R&D no wonder drugs!

Don't forget that the overwhelming majority of R&D that pharm companies complain about is paid for by publicly funded universities.
