Ok, who thinks that torture is a value of the USA in anything but solitary confinement for a few months and carrot and stick tactics. not including threat of death. I can understand very rough treatment at the time of capture, because there is a real time value to information....but to water board someone months after their capture while in official custody..isn't that something we thought made the Axis powers evil during WW2. How can it make us into the good guys if we do it?

Hillary seems to be slowly winning ground with the general public.
Are voters finally realising that the right-wing 'What? That (take your pick or combo) communist, dishonest, divisive, bossy, ugly woman!?' smear campaign is just that: a smear campaign.
Even here on Y/As there is an evident 'softening' of rhetoric against her.
(I have noticed that 'thumbs up' now about equal 'thumbs down' when praising or condemning her.)
8 months to a year ago there tended to be overwhelming condemnation of anything she did or said.

Should the world get ready for a woman US President?

When George H.W. Bush ran in 1992 and lost to Bill Clinton, he did become elgible again to run for President of the United States of America again. Although he has not run since, he could run for President in 2008 if he wanted to.

If former President of the United States of America George H.W. Bush (who is the father of George W. Bush) ran for President in 2008, would you vote for him? Why or why not?

I would vote for former President Bush in a heartbeat. He was an Awesome President from 1989 to 1993 and he would be a good candidate to continue his son's George legacy for Four More Years.

According to this interview he did in 1988 with Connie Chung, they simply didn't call up the National Guard for duty in Vietnam! It's not his fault that patriotic folk like him didn't go and fight! Shame on the beauracracy for denying bush his chance to be a war hero! Shame on them for making bush burn jetfuel, joyriding over US airspace on the taxpayer's dime in the champagne division of the Texas Air National Guard while a war was raging on the other side of the world! Tsk, tsk! Let that be a lesson to unchristian beauracracy! Yes, a lesson indeed!

“They should have probably called up the National Guard in those days. Maybe we would have done better in Vietnam.” -- George W. Bush

I mean, worse than ambulance chasers.

I mean, worse than tow truck drivers who write down license numbers in hotel parking lots where there are a lot of bars then go and ask to tow vehicles that aren't registered.

I mean just plain scumbags and lowlifes.

Anyone else feel this way?

I think Batman would be a Republican because he was born a spoiled brat with lots of money and is though on crime.

And I think Spiderman would be a liberal because he's from New York, majored in physics (which means he believes in the big bang not creationism), and because he believes that:

"with great power comes great responsibility."

Americans simply bend over and take it like they have for every other illegal constitutional amendment that he has initiated during his disastrous 2 terms in office? I think they would take it right up the tailpipe if Bush said that terrorists would kill them if they didn't agree wih him.

Its nine oclock on a saturday
The regular crowd shuffles in
Theres an old man sitting next to me
Makin love to his tonic and gin

He says, son, can you play me a memory?
Im not really sure how it goes
But its sad and its sweet and I knew it complete
When I wore a younger mans clothes

La la la, de de da
La la, de de da da da

Chorus:
Sing us a song, youre the piano man
Sing us a song tonight
Well, were all in the mood for a melody
And youve got us feelin alright

Now john at the bar is a friend of mine
He gets me my drinks for free
And hes quick with a joke or to light up your smoke
But theres someplace that hed rather be
He says, bill, I believe this is killing me.
As the smile ran away from his face
Well Im sure that I could be a movie star
If I could get out of this place

Oh, la la la, de de da
La la, de de da da da

Now paul is a real estate novelist
Who never had time for a wife
And hes talkin with davy whos still in the navy
And probably will be for life

And the waitress is practicing politics
As the businessmen slowly get stoned
Yes, theyre sharing a drink they call loneliness
But its better than drinkin alone

Chorus

Its a pretty good crowd for a saturday
And the manager gives me a smile
cause he knows that its me theyve been comin to see
To forget about life for a while
And the piano, it sounds like a carnival
And the microphone smells like a beer
And they sit at the bar and put bread in my jar
And say, man, what are you doin here?

Oh, la la la, de de da
La la, de de da da da

Chorus

I'm 14, and I feel like I should be more aware of what is going on in the country that I live in. From what I know, I think Bush is arrogant, incompetent, and an anti-intellectual. But, I would like to know more about some of his actions, such as not approving health care for kids, turning down a bill to give financial aid to students who were convicted of a misdemeanor involving drugs, etc. Thank you!

I remember they had a nationwide telephone poll and did on tv. At the end, it was a choice between Abraham Lincoln, Martin Luther King Jr, and Ronald Reagan.
http://dsc.discovery.com/convergence/greatestamerican/greatestamerican.html

Why did Reagan win?

Here's why I think he won. As a left-wing liberal I have high admiration for Abraham Lincoln and Martin Luther King Jr Both represented the left-wing of their generation.

So I was split between Lincoln and MLK Jr.

Right-wingers on the other hand (especially southern neo-confederates who HATE Lincoln) had only one choice: Reagan.

So while the left-wing vote was split in two, the right-wing vote had only one real choice.

Where is the "victory" in that? I mean, its like the 300 Spartans versus the mightiest military ever galvanized by man. AK-47s versus F-22 Raptors.

It definately is NOT a shortcoming of US soldiers, they accomplish EVERY mission. It IS a shortcoming of the plans approved by the "Commander and Chief". Is it not?

Cons seem to believe that government can't do anything right.

But apparently our government's foreign policy is always right?

I don't think so.

Kicking fascist behind during WWII and the Marshal Plan = Good.

Helping to overthrow elected leaders in Iran and latin america and replacing them with right-wing dictators = Bad.
