Yes...way too much!
People who are obsessed with money judge everything by how much it's pricetag and not what it's true value is.
They look at everyone in terms of how much they have and not what kind of person they are.

One example: I play the guitar in a band and I have a friend who plays in the band sometimes. He has a Gibson Les Paul that cost him about $3,500 and I have an Agile AL-2500 that cost me about $270.
I've played his guitar and I like mine much more and if he offered to trade I'd say no.
The lesson: The value of something usually isn't determined by it's price.

You can never judge a society by its reality TV shows. If you did, Americans would exist solely for the purpose of people who can't sing, people who can't dance, and Paris Hilton's snatch.

Typical American workers have no free time to read, think or develop an inner life. So all they have to evaluate their progress in existence is to gauge their material wealth in comparison with their neighbors.

Here, we can agree. I think most people indeed are wrapped up in their wealth or lack of it. But, I think it speaks more to the nature of people than it does to something about this country. This country simply makes it easier for people to pursue their wealth, so it's more evident.

Yea we are concerned about it to a certain degree. I mean you got bills, kids, etc. That's not the only thing we concerned about but it's a great majority of us that are.

I think that greed (the love of money) can infect those with money and those without money. I see both daily.

We all have different values systems and I don't think it is fair to generalize.

No, you should not generalize from what you've seen on TV and what you can deduce from it, but I would say money play a big part in any culture.
