why don't i see them demanding to be the only ones to foot the bill for the iraq war?

If such programs were not paid for by taxpayer money, they would cease to be "socialized" in nature but rather more like a private cooperative in the manner some utility companies are run.

As for footing the bill for the Iraqi occupation, they would rather borrow and spend like there is no tomorrow in the manner of a crazed teenaged girl inside a mall with her parent's credit card. After all, they are not paying for it. Let someone foot the bill (foreign creditors).

The faulty logic of some conservatives is truly bizarre.

It's the progressive income tax that causes us to waste our time arguing with each other over bullshit questions like this.

If we had a "flat" Federal income tax, where everyone paid income tax at the same rate, then the tax would be proportional rather than progressive, and it would sound a lot less like "don't tax you, don't tax me, tax that fellow behind the tree" than the progressive income tax does.

Another way of defusing these class warfare-type questions would be to tax everyone the same dollar amount for a particular program. After all, people with higher incomes, or greater wealth, aren't charged more for a McDonald's or Wendy's cheeseburger, or a Mustang convertible, than people with lower incomes, or less wealth, are they? This is actually the way user fees (as opposed to taxes), such as the tolls charged on toll highways, work in practice.

Right. And if they want to keep us poor ghetto dwelling "diversifieds" from stealing all their nice things, they should hire private security guards. I'm tired of handouts to protect the property of the fortunate -- after 7 years of GWB, I have nothing left worth stealing and need a Police Department like a fish needs a bicycle.

War in Iraq is for protecting Americans. Social programs dont encourage individualism, instead just keep people from making progress. Why should Peter be robbed to pay Paul? Or if you had a 4.0 gpa and your friend had a 2.0 gpa, and you worked you butt of for the 4.0 while your friend did nothing, are you willing to give 1.0 of your gpa so that both can be equal. Does that teach your friend anything?

And of course it isn't really a "volunteer" army when you can't leave anytime you want and the government can force you to stay even beyond the period for which you enlisted.

That is a great idea. Since they are against taxes, there would be no more funding for that war.

When your social programs become important to every American (like Iraq) we'll pay.

Until then, you compete for dollars. No free rides. Don't like that, get a job and pay yourself.

Stop confronting the conservatives with logic. It makes them get dizzy and fall over.

I think if Conservatives say that to you, it means they want you to work instead of slave off those who do. Makes sense, doesn't it?
