I'm guessing that Bush joining the Air National Guard was a compromise that his father made. Given his own experiences in WWII I would think the elder Bush was quite torn over what George should have done - and probably steered him towards the guard.
My ol' man was a Marine in Korea and sure did his best to talk me out of joining - and there was no active action at the time.
If you know anything about George Bush '43 you know that he'd have gone head long into Viet Nam if the Guard had been called up.
There's only one high better than flying a jet - and that's surviving combat in one.

Another phoney charge against the non-existant 'libs'....anything to beat up the strawman. Bush got a free ride via his dad....no particular problem there, so did a lot of guys or had some other way to avoid the war. Nobody accused Bush of dodging the draft. The question arose only because John Kerry, who actually did put himself in the line of fire in Vietnam, found himself attacked by a GOP hit squad of swift-boat morons. I doubt if Bush's 'service' would ever have been questioned as it wasn't really relative to the debate. Bush should never have been 'selected' as president in 2,000 or in 2,004 but as he was he should have not allowed himself to used a stooge by the Oil Mafia, the corporations and the Jesus freak right....he did and he's still doing it and that's why 3/4 of the people in the United States think he's a total failure and a living, breathing putz!

no, they didn't call up the guard as units. What most people don't know is that Bush flew F-102s for the guard, a plane those mission was primary bomber intercepter. Bush did voluteer for training in the F-100D, but that was when the war was winding down and the program was full. What libs don't seem to see is that a Lt in the guard has very little decision in what he does and where he goes.

in line with probability your neighbor is familiar with somebody who did sign in for the draft and ended up doing time in a armed forces reformatory for refusing to combat as a draftee. That guy could have greater peace factors than you. As for telling people, you will discover right here what number people who're uncomfortable imagining a distinction between the supervisor government's very own hobbies and their very very own.

Well, as I understand it, it USED to be that the National Guard was not used in foreign lands, but to protect US - and we know there was constant danger of the Vietnamese attacking US!
If Mr. Brave Armchair Warrior truly wanted to see action, he would have joined the Navy, like Mr. Kerry, or the Army, or Marines. And what of the brave Mr. Cheney, who continually got family deferments? They are both sickening. As to Mr. Clinton, he was not a warmonger.

The National Guard fought extensively in Vietnam,
And Dubya didn't burn up much fuel in a fighter. He was too busy drinking and drugging in Alabama, where he got a transfer to work on a political campaign, which,by the way,is a violation of regulations.

I am not 100% sure of the military service of President George W. Bush. All I know is this, he was interested, he signed up, and he served. Can you say that about Bill Clinton? You Cannot.

Bush would never have gone to Vietnam! His Father would have called in friends in high places to keep his son safe, you can take that to the bank!
