Does the government just create it out of thin air or does someone have to pay for it? Who? Can we make the Iraqis pay for it? No? Well then who?

You mean US?

But isn't that what we're doing now????

So why would that be better?

Oh, because the government could potentially, through economies of scale, produce it more efficiently?

Well two questions, (1) how come that rarely happens - is that because of the absence of competition? and (2) in order to achieve these economies of scale, wouldn't that mean less variety, hence less choice?

The government could provide us all with FOOD, in theory slightly more cheaply than the economy does now. But that would require that we all eat the same food tonight.

What if you want Mexican, I want Chinese, and someone else wants Italian? At least two of us are SOL....

But healthcare is more important? Right! So that's even MORE reason not to create a government monopoly!

And by trends I do mean plural - not only have we had an explosion of illegal immigration, but the trend, in both legal and illegal immigration over the last 25 years, has been toward less-educated, less-skilled, poorer immigrants.

Legal and illegal combined we import about a million poor people every year.

What gets my goat is the simple fact that the media reports poverty figures, median incomes, and the number of people without health insurance, without ever taking into account the influx or poor people into the country. And then Libs take this and argue that more poor people means millions of middle class people are slipping into poverty, "losing" their health insurance, or seeing their incomes rise only very slowly, or that somehow the increase in number of poor people reflects poorly on our economy therefore our economic policies.

President Bush signed this into law and (under) funds it? Why do Conservatives support this President if he is doing something the founders supposedly didn't want, Federal Government intervention in Education?

Since the Constitution doesn't mention meat inspections and standards, are we supposed to believe that Adams and Jefferson and Madison intend the states to deal with meat inspection?

When thier republican congress grew government larger than ever and the Dems have held pretty good to thier promise. Citizens Against Government Waste, in its annual "Congressional Pig Book," released this week, reports $13.2 billion in pork-barrel spending for the current fiscal year, down from $29 billion in 2006
In other words the Dems have already halfed earmark spending, truth kicks your backside doesn't it cons.

The tax which will be paid for the purpose of education is not more than the thousandth part of what will be paid to kings, priests and nobles who will rise up among us if we leave the people in ignorance - Madison

I must study politics and war that my sons may have liberty to study mathematics and philosophy. My sons ought to study mathematics and philosophy, geography, natural history, naval architecture, navigation, commerce and agriculture in order to give their children a right to study painting, poetry, music, architecture, statuary, tapestry, and porcelain. - Adams

It becomes expedient for promoting the public happiness that
those persons, whom nature has endowed with genius and virtue, should be rendered by liberal education worthy to receive, and able to guard the sacred deposit of the rights and liberties of their fellow citizens; and that they should be called to that charge without regard to wealth, birth or other accidental
condition or circumstance. - Jefferson

Why would Columbia University award a speaking engagement to a man who sponsored a "Hate America" parade in his own nation? Does anyone else find this vile and disgusting and downright asinine? If these people think they can debate him and or win his heart they are sadly mistaken. They will do anything, say anything to remain in power.
I've heard more about GW Bush being more of a democrat than a republican in the last two weeks that ever.

Does anybody else find this pathetic. Nixon passed a social agenda why don't they pass him to the democrats too!

MoveOn.Org is, of course, a politcal group that depends upon its membership for seeking its goal. MoveOn received 15,000 new membrs, and, $500,000 following the ad in the Times being held up at the Senate hearings almost 2 weeks ago.

I expect Republicans will use this to vilify the Democrats, instead of limiting the disdain to MoveOn itself, but, from a trategic point of view, who wins?
