my parents just got custody of my niece from my sister. She seems to have chronic bronchitis or asthma. While she was with my sister she was not allowed to be put on medical because her dad is in the military and she is supposed to have champus, or tricare or whatever the military uses these days. My parents are now incurring the extra cost of adding them to their insurance. I told them she was supposed to have military insurance because she is registered as a dependent of someone in the military, he pays child support and recieves the extra money for having a dependent. What do my parents need to do now that they have custody to put him on his insurance. My sister says that the paperwork hasn't been filled out, but i spoke to other ex military people that say all they need is her fathers social security number and to go the base and fill everything out. What needs to be done!?

My husband is in the National Guard, so we don't have a home base. We live near Quantico so I do most of my grocery shopping there while he's deployed. I also frequently visit Ft. Bragg as well as Ft. Belvoir. Up until this weekend no one has ever questioned me why my car wasn't registered. I have both a dependant card as well as a DoD CAC. When I went to Quantico I was hasseled by the Marine on gate duty for not having my car registered. Then his buddy was like, "Oh, he's National Guard". Do I HAVE to have my car registered? Up until that point no one questioned or stopped me about it. I was thinking about registering it at Ft. Bragg when I drop my husband off so I don't have any more problems.

Grew up as a Army brat, but was curious about how it came about. We heard it often as growing up, our Dad served 21 years!

the actual keepers of it do?
Everyday I see posts from people who speak like they have access to the info they blather on about. For example, the WMD issue was hot awhile back and the 'net exploded with insights from conspiracy nuts who attempted to convince folks that they were experts on the matter. Put it this way, the Government is veterans at espionage and intellegence gathering, they employ respected and learned PhD's, Advisors to the President have more years of experience at thier jobs than most "expert posters" have years of drawing breath. Yet we're constantly bombarded with "facts" from people who consider themselves authorities because they spend thier lunch hours reviewing the latest drivel on blogspot.com! Seriously, do you think your source has more info than those who gather it for a living, or is it more realistic that they are sitting in thier mom's basement talking out of thier a$$es too?

If I retire at age 38, I'll be getting roughly $3500 a month, tax free for the rest of my life if I stay military. If I get out, I have a chance of getting an almost 6 figure income, but will not have that military pension to fall back on, and will not have retirement pay until around age 65. Which would be better, stay military and get that pension, or get out and get a 6 figure income?
