It wasn't actually plundered after all,
The items that thought had been stolen,
Had actually been moved by the Museum staff to protect them.
There was some minor items stolen, mainly by Iraqi citizens and the Media.
But the vast majority of the items, were never missing in the first place.
But you didn't really expect the media to report that they had the story wrong the entire time.

I can tell you first hand, the US Armys Third Infantry Division was resposible for protecting and returning the "lost" items from the museums in Baghdad.
As another user said, most of it was moved by museum workers whom were concerned about the safety of the items.

Whoever caused the security to be removed by invading Iraq and then failed to protect the museums when they were the only credible security force. Oh gee!!! that's us!!
