I am seriously considering the USCG. I am actually going today to speak with a recruiter.
I am 25, female, no children and in decent shape. There is nothing holding me back other than the fear of the unknown. I wanted to find some real experiences to help fuel my decision.
This will be the biggest thing I have ever done. I know that it's not going to be all sunshine and roses, however I have a strong disire to succeed and for once in my life I want to be proud of my choices.
From a womans point of view, what is basic like? What would be the best way to prepare? Pros and Cons?

Thanks in advance.
DeAnna

My question relates to Jesse Adam Macbeth who claimed that he took part in the murder of hundreds of Iraqis. He said — "We would burn their bodies ... hang their bodies from the rafters in the mosque." These allegations were picked up by many anti-war groups, including, "Iraq veterans against the war," and several other Web sites and used to paint the U.S. in a bad light .

The fact is whether people want to realize it or not we need people like him in the army because this war is being run wrong , there's no question about it , people like this do make it seem like that is a general feeling among soldiers and that they want to inflict more punishment but then again who can blame them ?

I couldn't believe soldiers are being investigated for killing innocent civilians in Afghanistan after there convoy was attacked by a suicide truck bomber . Put yourself in there shoes - your driving with other soldiers after battling all day long with your fellow men and women most of whom are good friends , your body begging for sleep , all you want is to sleep and your almost there in bed and then all of a sudden a truck bomb goes off killing your close friends . I would have shot everyone in sight as well , not saying its right but its the mindset at the time and I do not believe people looking on from outside , should have any say on someone's mindset who is constantly having to deal with this sort of situation on a almost constant basis .

Anyone agree ?

It fails miserably. Now the Army is admitting mistake after it was exposed on TV.

If I were a soldier that had my vest penetrated by a bullet, I would sue for obvious negligence by our military leaders that we taxpayers pay to do their jobs right and to not make blatant mistakes.

Somebody I know, but wouldn't consider a friend is serving in Iraq right now. He fell off a tailgate of a truck, while not in combat. From what I've heard, he has some bruises and a separated rib. While painful, hardly life threatening. Will this still get him a Purple Heart? Does this make him a hero or just a klutz?

In other words, bring our troops home and let them serve here in America protecting us and let's suit up the death row inmates and let them serve over there. Why should our tax dollars be spent feeding them and keeping them alive when they don't do anything anyway. Send the inmates that serve a life sentence and if they survive the experience and make it back to America then they deserve full restituion.

The Iraq war has cost us 378 billion dollars.

378,000,000,000 / (2007 * 365.25 * 24 * 60 * 60) = $5.97

That's $5.97 for every second since Jesus Christ died. Five dollars and ninety seven cents for each second!

Can you justify that? When's it going to end?

I am disturbed that there are body armour called dragonskin vests that would protect our soldiers significately against bullets moreso than the government issued vests but the Gov't won't issue them. Don't you think it would be in the best interest of our soldiers to protect them by any means neccessary? Why won't they issue them? And does the military get some benefit from the fatalities of our men? Only serious minded answer. Not a joking matter. Thanks much.

For example

I'm German during the 1940s and the German government is commiting genocide against Jews

Or I am Serbian during the 1990s and my country is massacring Bosnians in Srebrenica

Or I am Sudanese and my government is killing darker skinned Africans.

Wouldn't it be morally wrong to support my country in those circumstances, and wouldn't the braver thing be to take arms against my country even if it meant killing my fellow countrymen?

Is supporting your country in war automatically right whatever the circumstances.

Under what circumstances would you fight AGAINST your country?

Is politics more important than the lives of our soldiers in battle? Why can they just give the troops the money they need? If the president did break the law, why don't they just impeach him? Is congress themselves breaking the law by trying to be commander-in-chiefs?

He has gave the U.S.A. all of him self. I too don't like war, but I will never forget the feelings of 9-11. sitting in my living room watching my world change for ever. Knowing my husband was out in the gulf working on an oil rig. my kids at school wanting to run and get them, thinking they would be safer with me at home. I too wish things were differnt, I have people too that have gone to war, we have prayed for them to come home, but this is a choich they have made to WORK for what we all want to keep our freedom. Pres. Bush is not making no one go over there, they joined, No one was ordered to join any of the armed forces. Think about all the years we were not at war and all they did was play at war. Now, we as the free need them to do there jobs, People will protest them doing there jobs. I don't care about REP or DEM, I just want some real answers from real people. May be I am the one not looking at the big story, I see one MAN tring to keep us free, and we need to pray to GOD.

I am nine years prior enlisted and am interested in going back in. I am 30 years old right now and will get a Bachelors in zoology in a year and a half (Right before I turn 32). I am looking at the two year ROTC program and OTS as a second option.

Positives:
1) I have never had any legal or credit problems
2) Excellent Health
3) Never had any diciplinary action taken me while in the military
4) My EPRS were an even balance of 4s and 5s over my career.
5) I never married. No children or dependents.

Negatives
1) I seperated with a reenlistment code of 3 because I turned down an assignment. I couldn't make E-5 (SSgt) because of that, so I got out as an E-4 (SrA).
2) My GPA is kinda weak 2.57
3) My age and a nontechnical degree

I am a E-4 in the United States Army and I barely make enough to support myself. But yet I spent a 14 months in Iraq driving trucks from base to base with no complaint. I had to deal with the heat, IED's, and everthing else and still my pay is low.
