There should be some indication of when your retirement started on your separation papers, DD-214. You can also check with your military branch. Payment should have started shortly after your leaving active duty. Check with BUPERS, or the Bureau of Personel. You may be able to get assistance from a local VA office as well.

you can go to my pay .com. you will have to sign up for the site. it costs nothing and you can get your retirement statement from there.
