They can only call at certain times. It can be far and in between...it is a privilege for them to be able to use the phone. It is one of those hit and miss things...they never know when they are going to be able to call. Writing is the best way to keep up communications.

Sorry you missed his call. When I went through Navy boot I was allowed one call when I got there to let someone know I was there and one call that we earned as a Division around week 4 of boot. That was about it.

Phone calls during boot are a reward you must earn. After boot, however, he can call pretty much whenever he wants as long as he is on liberty. They have installed phones in the BEQs at NTC Great Lakes, so you will be able to call him as well when he is not in his "A" School.

It will not be the same for everyone. My husband was at Ft.Benning and at first I only got a phone call on Sundays. After a few weeks into it i got calls all the time. It is not hust on the training but the person. Do what you are told when you are told to do it and dont be afraid to ask questions and it will be better off for you, Thats how he got to call me so much. Write him as much as you can its good for you both. I wrote my husband everyday even the days I was with him for Family Day. He has been out of basic for over a year now and we love to sit back and read the letters. It hurts now but when you look back and read them it will seem like it was not that long. Take pictures as much as you can and send them. Also send him stamps so he can write you back. I wish you both the best of luck!!!!

I'm sorry you missed his call. When my husband was in boot camp he was only allowed make one 30 second call when he arrived there. After that he was able to make only one other phone call towards the very end of boot camp. Really, the only way to keep in touch is writing letters.

Once every couple of weeks. He's in the Navy now. He is going to be gone for 4+ years unless you guys were going to get married in the future some time you may want to find something to do with your life like college or a job or something. SItting around 24 hours a day waiting for him to make you happy is not going to work anymore.

Honestly? after the first one to say that he arrived.. don't expect ANY. they have to be earned, and one person screwing up ruins it for everybody.

I got a grand total of two.. and they were both in the last week of Boot camp. and then only because he was off base doing a COMREL thing and he found a pay phone.

I'm sorry to hear you missed his call last night.

His phone time will depend on the training schedule. I'm sure there are some times that are more intensive than others. When I was in Army basic, we only got to use the phones on the weekends... and then, only when other training was not scheduled.

If you missed his call, there wont be another one for awhile. They only get a few phone calls that they put time restrictions on. If he is
"ship staff" they sneak phone calls all of the time...And can only write letters every sunday. The three months will go by fast, and before you know it, you will see him again!

It differs by squadron but he won't get to call often. My husband only called me twice the whole time. But write, write, write!!! You can say alot more in a letter than a 10 minute phone call :0)

You are a lucky girl that he was able to call you or choose to call you over his parents. I was in the AF and was only allowed to call to let them know I was there, that I was signing up for the GI Bill, and to say I graduated.

Good luck, but don't sit by the phone...you will drive yourself nuts!
