SECF isn't a Navy rating (like BM, SK, IT, CT). Computer rating is now the IT rate....Information Systems Tech. The RADIOMAN and DATA PROCESSOR ratings combined a few years ago. I would imagine it's a sub-specialty in the IT rating.
Go for it! You can probably transfer that to a great paying job when you go back to CIV LAND.
Call the base at Pensacola where the IT school is and ask for the IT school. Talk to someone there about your interest. An IT could better answer your questions. Here's the base operator number: (850) 452-0111
Good luck!

as an HM you stand a very good chance( close to 100%) of going FMF/FMSS and ending up hanging out with Marines. Marines worship their Docs, but..possibility of combat is very high.

Bubbleheads.. very strong brotherhood and purposely going aboard a boart designed to sink. depending onth eplatform, you could be underway a LOT, and with little to no contcat with the outside world.

Each have great positives and great personal satisfaction opportunities. each also have their share of dangers.

can you pass the SECF physical as well as be granted a Clearance?

You should keep your rating as a HM, I am ret Navy guy I was a Machinist Mate. They job you slected is a pretty cool field with very good upward growth if You really want to volenteer for submarire service you can. As far as telling you what is best for you to choose that is your choice I would never tell some one what rate they should be. My self I know that MM was good for me. HM rates do many things with the navy and the marines some good and some I would not want to do.
