In my view they got a huge punishment with huge casualties of their military and civilian population through firebombing, Hamburg and Dresden come to mind, the gigantic war they had with Stalin's Russia, destruction their country suffered and the political division that lasted forty-five years. Of course, most Nazi leaders committed suicide, put on trial, and sent to be hanged when found guilty, or sent to prison to serve their sentence. What is your opinion?

On March 21, 2003, the first American was wounded in the war in Iraq.
A Marine Staff Sgt. stepped on a landmine and broke his right arm and damaged his leg so badly that it was amputated.
He was awarded a Purple Heart.
He recently came out as gay.

Also, the military has discharged over 300 service members with skills in Arabic, Farsi, Korean and other critical languages over the last 10 years because of the ban on homosexuals in the armed forces.

Do you think that people who say "Support Our Troops" support ALL the troops by being against discrimination within the military?

Your recent piece on "our generation" [Viet-Nam] on the those who served and those who went to canada failed to discuss a key point. When President Nixon gave them a pardon that was a slap in the face of those who died and served our country. I have no problem if they came back and did their 2 year commitment to America. they could do some type of service pick up litter, community service etc. But to say just come home all is forgiven was just plain wrong.

I particularly would like to hear from current military, former military, and former or current military family members, but anyone else is welcome to comment. Watch the video first please, it's about three minutes long. It's of an anti-war demonstration in Portland, Oregon.

I know they have freedom of speech and all, but it's men like MY HUSBAND who give them this freedom. And what do they do with it? THIS kind of crap makes me SO angry, and ASHAMED of the country I love. If you're going to protest the war, that is NOT the way to do it!
Is anyone else as angered by this as I am? If so, we need to start speaking out about it. I'm stationed in Germany with my husband, so I can't participate in any counter-protests. Is anyone willing to speak for us? Is anyone willing to stand up for us? Is anyone else as shocked, saddened, and sickened by this as I am?

She thinks the British kidnappings are a ploy to justify aggression toward Iran... My brother- in- law along with hundreds of fellow G.I.s were deployed from their naval base in California back in January. They boarded aircraft carriers along with thousands of other troops from around the nation. Their destination? Waters off the coast of Iran. My sister talks to him when she can and he still has no idea what they are going to be doing there... What do you think is going on?

Here is a link to the BBC reports and video of the second soldier:

http://news.bbc.co.uk/2/hi/uk_news/6509813.stm

I see these unfortunate soldiers in the pictures and video and they do not appear to be coerced or beaten as has been suggested by posters in Yahoo Answers. There does seem to be problems in translations from Farsi language to English as well as some bad editing on the video.

To me the soldiers look very confused by it all and are hoping this situation will meet with a diplomatic resoloution soon. They do not appear to be abused at all by the Iranians, and the broadcasts are for Iranian television and probably to calm the fears for Iranian citizens.

I think it would be best not to get all inflamed about this. Obviously the reactions intend to whip up anger and fury, which always causes a problem.

So far Iran just wants a promise that this will not happen again and wants a trial. I say let them have thier process and see what happens- then respond accordingly.

It’s pretty obvious that Iran is trying to start a confrontation with the West by their actions. And this is the same country that is slowly building a nuclear arsenal. I wish that westerners would put aside their political differences for just a moment and realize that attacking Bush and Blair is not the appropriate response to the Iran “hostage” situation. We need to stand firm and say the actions of Iran are completely uncalled for.

People like to compare apples and oranges, but you cannot compare the captured British soldiers to those detained at Guantanamo:
1. Guantanamo detainees were caught on the battlefield fighting against Coalition forces, the Brits were kidnapped by Iran in Iraqi waters.
2. Gitmo detainees are catalogued so we know exactly where they are, unlike the Brits.
3. Gitmo detainees are allowed to be visited by the Red Cross, Red Crescent, and other human rights organizations, unlike the Brits.
4. Gitmo detainees are not paraded on tv and forced to read statements
