I am going to Fort Jackson, SC

1. lotion (i always apply skin moiturizer before applying lotion, can i bring both?)

and what "unofficiallly" tolerated items are there for Fort Jackson?

For example, my recruiter told me to take my phone because they might let us use in on Sundays, even though they're not on the official list of what to bring.

I have to use lotion everyday, otherwise my skin will get dry and it will feel like my skin's tearing apart.

AND, it's natural for me to use lotions because I am FEMALE.

Lotion is fine, don't worry. I was a Marine and a DI later on and we do not "confiscate" personal hygiene items unless they are cosmetics (not allowed) or other equally foolish items. Lotion is FINE. I remember stashing a tube of sunscreen in my pocket.

Cell phone is a big NO. You will have access to a pay phone on Sun but not cell phones. That will be taken away. You may want to bring a calling card.

Good luck!

Yes, I would say you could bring your moisterizer and lotion. You do want to pack as light as possable. You might want to bring small bottles (unless you have a special brand name) You will have the opportunity to go to the store before and during basic (they will march you and inspect what you get). The person that said you will hold your stuff over your head is either an idiot or trying to scare you. I was in Fort Jackson in 99 and itis not that bad. The main thing you need to remember is basic is "all a head game" The Drill's are there to break you and to make you into a soldier.

I think you can.. But trust me, you're not going to have much time to use it in basic.. Maybe after the first three weeks... But still.. Also, the more you bring.. The more you have to hold over your head for an hour when you first get there.. They will make you do that.. So pack light..

edit: I wouldn't know then, sorry.. Mine was at fort Benning. It's all guys there. Not sure if it's much differant for females but I hear it's similiar, mainly the language they use is differant. Good luck though!!

Take a tooth brush and some money. The rest will be confiscated but you will be given a chance to buy what you need at the PX (store).

When I went to basic they took everything, even the clothes on my back, and sent them back home. We had nothing that wasn't government issued, even our underwear. Things have changed if you get to keep the lotion.

Forget what your recruiter told you, if you bring anything other than what is on the list, it will be taken away from you, and it will NOT be returned to you until you completed basic.

bring as little as possible, when you get to basic, they are going to take all of your stuff, shove it in a closet and you won't see it again till u graduate. bring tooth paste , soap , tooth brush, q tips, razor, and shaving cream. and nothing else. the more stuff u bring the more fun the DI's will make fun of you in order to break u down. have fun it's hard but you'll get through it
