Many vets are homeless for many reasons. most often those dealing with mental health because of what they saw and did! There are no unwounded soldiers in war.

I know what the typical answer will be. It is their fault!

Well, it isn't! In addition the VA fails a lot of soldiers, Currently, no matter what the administration tells you in it's lies, the VA Hospitals are currently treating 105,000 veterans of Iraq! That is a fact!

Why would they send their money to the army?

An active duty solider wouldn't find himself homeless after coming back from Iraq or Afghanistan. They live in the barracks if they're single or if a certain rank (or married) they can live off post and use the BAH they're paid.

(You said soldier, not vet, so that's how I answered.)

Veterans represent a pretty good percentage of homeless people ! The reasons you mentioned could account for this happening, but on a temporary basis !

On a more permanent basis, many veterans are homeless due to the physical and psychological damage done to them as a result of military exposure they endured as a member of the armed forces .

Many veterans feel they can no longer belong to a society as competitive and demanding as our is, today. Many have lost the social skills and the family compatibility they had before their traumatic experiences.

Society is not equipped to handle many of the problems these people face. The veteran's administration is available to them, but even here, they shy away !

It happens. Back during Vietnam there was a POW and his wife had two children in a military hospital during the years he was captured. His wife also spent every dime of his pay during the years he was in the prison camp.

If you mean after active duty. An all is done, and done. An they don't really get enough benefits. An PDS effects them. I guess we should help them. How is a good question. Maybe respond to congress about this. Or America can do something. Start a program. From the bullets to the homes program, or something.

They are not homeless if active duty. They have barracks rooms...and most posts are upgrading and they are pretty nice for a single soldier to live in!

They aren't homeless. The vet have PLENTY of resources available to them. I HATE those guys that bum and have a sign that says "Disabled Vet". That's BS!!
My wife is in Veterans of Foreign Wars and Disabled American Vets. We know what resources are available and there's NO reason for those "Vets" to be on the street corner.
