Well considering that they just now openly stated that they will be hiding nuclear activity from the UN, I think their purpose is obvious. The US should've already made them a parking lot. It's not too late to make that happen, though.

You need thousands of certrifuges to enrich enough weapons grade uranium to make an atom bomb. Guess what? They've gone beyond the number needed to used for peaceful purposes in nuclear power plants. So what does that tell you??? The current projection is that they'll have an operational nuke by 2012 at their current rate of development.
Two technical hurdles still stand in their way, namely engineering the trigger mechanism and then the mode of delivery via warhead.... We've got some lead time, but not much to act or welcome them to the nuclear club. Just get ready for the ride, whatever way we go.

Why should anyone believe the Iranian government on anything? Based on their conduct in the world today, they are clearly not interested in anyone but themselves. They have a history of hostage taking, funneling money and cash to insurgents or Hezbollah, or other terrorist organizations, and ignoring treaties they are signatories to.
They are ruled by religious zealots, trample womens rights, and have not really contributed much to the world in the last few hundred years, except oils and gas.
Iran didn't find the oil and gas, western companies did. Western companies built the infrastructure to transport the oil; pipelines, ports, tankers. Russia is building their nuclear reactor.
I look forward to the day that the Iranian people decide their government should be replaced by one that wants to compete in the world marketplace. It will be the day the Iranian people will begin to leverage their enormous wealth, cultural history, music, education and talents for the betterment of their people. It will be nice to share those things with the world instead of terror, hate, rhetoric, and lies.
