Military - February 2007

Knowing that they were created to help identify dead and wounded soldiers who fought hard and risked their lives for their country. How do you feel when you see regular non-military men and women wearing them, just so they can be cool.

I have my grandfather's from World War II, and I hate it when I see people that have never served wearing them. I think it's disrespectful to those that earned their dog tags.

I want to know what Veterans think.

Always trying to advocate for better care and treatment for the casualties. What's wrong with these traitors? Why don't they just focus on the war effort, and not worry about the returning soldiers so much? I say, "Piss on the wounded soldiers, they should get back out there and fight." Who's with me?

For instance - If he comes over to me and prods me with a stick and says:

'Son, there is a piece of carp(substitute real word here) at the end of this stick'

and I replied 'From where im standing Sir, that appears to be a correct assumption'

Do you think he would find that funny?

Or what about if he says my shoes arent clean enough and I reply

'Whats the point we are going on a trek today, I'll clean em up once we get back'

Cause I love being a smart so and so. backchatting is my specialty subject.

How far do you reckon Id get before I broke the instructors will?

a 47 year ago incident.In 1960,I was a boy aged 6 1/2,I wanted to cross a street.I didn´t pay attention,so I got hit ba a car,a VW Bug.
Seconds later,an American car stopped,an American GI and his wife picked me up and brought me to the local hospital.Nobody got to know, who they were.My parents tried to find out any kinda way to say THANK YOU.But the American authorities here in Giessen,Germany couldn´t help.Acouple of months later we moved. In the late 70s,I moved back to Giessen,
where I live since then.I thought, with my better knowledge in English,I could find these gentle people, their address, whatever,
because it´s my desire to thank them for their help. But I didn´t succeed either. So maybe anybody out there, who reads this question, might remember in his own past,or his relatives´,friends´,that incident from spring 1960.It happened in Giessen,Germany,on the Licher Street, the street that leads from the Rivers Barracks downtown. It was very close to thr RxR crossing.

I graduated from high school, and went college as everyone had told me and expected me to do! Two years into college I become sick of it! I mean literally sick, I was always at the doctors office for something. Then I just couldn't get back into being in college. I didn't know what I wanted to do, or if the degree I obtained would help in the real world! So I decided to take a break from school and maybe get a job or try community college. During that time I was seeing a lot about the war in Iraq and decided I wanted to join the Air Force, I did a lot of research and joined, then I ended up in the hospital, because of that I have the opportunity to drop out of the Delayed Enlistment Program or change the date I'm scheduled to leave. I don't know whether I should go or stay and finish school. i really like all the Air Force has to offer, but i'm afraid to leave my family and friends, and don't know if i should get my degree first or if i'll regret not enlisting!!! advice please!

Tales of US planes patrolling the Iran/Iraq border. US soldiers given authorisation to kill Iranain agents in Iraq and a substantial military build up in the Gulf while the UK say they're going to bring nearly 2000 troops home. Where is it all leading?

progress, but have had absolutely no input or help from the recruiter. I keep reading that they generally help you get in shape and down to weight to enlist. Is this correct? Why is mine not doing his job if that it is part of the job? Please, no rude comments about how they can't do it for me let me, I am aware of that fact, but I know my progress would be a lot faster if I was working with someone who really knows what they are doing. Thanks.

I know the Coast Guard doesn't need as many people as the Army or Marine Corps, but the need is still there. Try comparing the Coast Guard website to the other services' websites: http://www.gocoastguard.com/

I am trying to find websites where I can write a soldier. I don't want to write a soldier through a website so they can print it out and put in in a package for them, I want to be assigned a specific soldier that I can write whenever I want and he/she can write me too. Does anyone know of any websites where I can find this? Any advice?

WASHINGTON, DC—Almost 4 years after the cessation of major combat and a year after the nation's first free democratic elections, President Bush unveiled the coalition forces' strategy for exiting Iraq.

Bush announces the pullout of Iraq through Iran.
"I'm pleased to announce that the Department of Defense and I have formulated a plan for a speedy withdrawal of U.S. troops from Iraq," Bush announced Monday morning. "We'll just go through Iran."

Bush said the U.S. Army, which deposed Iran's longtime enemy Saddam Hussein, should be welcomed with open arms by the Islamic-fundamentalist state.

"And Iran's so nearby," Bush said. "It's only a hop, skip, and a jump to the east." We will endure and win. The world is on our side. So is God.

I was in the military for 8.5 years. I served as enlisted although I attended a military academy. I left the military because I found being enlisted degrading. In fact, I felt degraded by stupid ROTC grad officers who were never enlisted. I believe that military officers should only be chosen from enlisted and never given a commission until they have served at least 3 years as enlisted. I also believe that the requirement of a college degree should be done away with for combat MOS's and aviation. I have 3 degrees, and one is just as useless as the other two. I also believe that if a person is young enough to serve as enlisted, then he or she should never be considered too old to become an officer. Who agrees, disagrees or has thoughts to offer? This is intended to be a debate.
