I know the Coast Guard doesn't need as many people as the Army or Marine Corps, but the need is still there. Try comparing the Coast Guard website to the other services' websites: http://www.gocoastguard.com/

To answer the first response:

If it's a question of funding for the Coast Guard, then that is a good reason to care. I mean it's already known as the sick man of the military, and it shouldn't be. Give it more funding I say, increase its numbers... thorough searching of vessels and cargo and detainment of people trying to sneak into the US by sea is a much better way to defend the US from terrorism than building another aircraft carrier, don't you think?

The CG is a branch of Homeland Security now. I also served for 10 years. They have 47,000 men and women who cover all or most US ports, and even some posts in Iraq and Afghanistan and other overseas posts. They have very difficult jobs that are very much underestimated by the general public. The CG also serves in port security positions, aids to navigation, search and rescue, aviation, and also is involved with the Defense Department in time of war. They easily meet their recruitment quotas, unlike the other branches. It's an elite sea service where one person does 5 different jobs, instead of in the other branches where 5 people do 1 job. I was also a unit career counselor for 18 months. I chose not to reenlist for the 3rd time because of family problems, and I regret it to this day. I love the USCG. Semper Peratus!

That is a very good question. They are the police of the water's. They also help with the safety of anyone in trouble at sea. I was once pulled over by the Coast Guard on the way back from the bahama's. They boarded and searched the boat. I think they were looking for drug's. I don't know why they don't have a good site, but they are out of sight in my eye's. They do alot of thankless and dangerous task's.

It's simple, the Coast Guard doesn't NEED a fancy web site. They have people standing in line to join and are the pickiest of the services.

The correct quesiton is- WHY DO YOU CARE?

its a website, the Coast Guard has to turn people away- they meet their quotas for doing their duty of going into harms way.

Why do you care?

I did 10 years U.S.C.G.
SO what if they got crappy web site?
They aren't hurting for recruits.
They wait for the potential recruits to come to them.
When I was in...The U.S.C.G had a WAITING LIST.
Bet they still do.

Because they want people to go to the army site, enlist and go to Iraq.
