The SEAL team is quite elite but so is the Delta force and Green Beret's but to answer your question, the SEAL's would be considered tougher than the Marines in general only because they are an elite force.

Apples and Oranges. A better question is... "Which is tougher Marine Recon, or Force Recon (Now part of MarSOC) or the Navy SEALs?"
and that is something only someone who has been through both sets of training could answer.
Also in regards to one of the previous answers the only Marines in the SEALs would be former Marines due to the fact that while the Marine Corps is a department of the Navy it is a seperate branch of the military. Although certain elements of Marine units, like an Air Naval Gunfire Liaison Company (ANGLICO), do support SEALs on some missions.

There are members of the Marines in the Navy SEALs because the Marines is under the command of the Navy Department during times of combat. SEALs are a very specialized fighting unit, which does include Marines.

yep... the Seals are the elite force of the Navy... while the Marines are just a branch of the military... a proper comparison would be the Marines' elite force to the Navy's elite force... I guess that would be like recon to the seals...

I would go with the marines special unit... just me...

but you also have the Army's special units like delta force and Green Berets... and I think there is some air force unit too that's pretty tough, but I don't remember what they are called...

The Navy Seals; it is an Elite and Special Forces team, which works on ground and water assault. The Marines on the other hand, share a strong relationship with the US Navy, but otherwise, are the Navy's version of the Army.

the navy seals are not a branch, they are a unit in the navy. the usmc is part of the navy but a seperate branch. i'm in the navy and i would say by far the usmc is the ultimate fighting force in the world. the seals are basically gym rats and over achieving military swat team...their missions are basically what every army and marine regular guys do on a daily basis, they just do it in smaller groups and get tagged with the elite special forces moniker.

Ok, Navy seals are extremely tough, but that is not a branch of the military, they are just a part of the Navy.

The Navy SEALs do not comprise a branch of the military.

Each person will prefer a different branch.
The SEALs are the special ops team for the Navy just as Force Recon is for the Marines.
Army has Rangers as special ops... then Special Forces. Delta Force is actually 1st Special Forces Operational Detachment.... it's part of Special Forces.
Air Force has pararescue.
Each is different in their own way. They each have their own missions and are for the most part, not interchangeable.

The Marines. The Marine Corps was created on November 10, 1775, in Tun Tavern, Philadelphia, Pennsylvania, by a resolution of the Continental Congress.
