For instance - If he comes over to me and prods me with a stick and says:

'Son, there is a piece of carp(substitute real word here) at the end of this stick'

and I replied 'From where im standing Sir, that appears to be a correct assumption'

Do you think he would find that funny?

Or what about if he says my shoes arent clean enough and I reply

'Whats the point we are going on a trek today, I'll clean em up once we get back'

Cause I love being a smart so and so. backchatting is my specialty subject.

How far do you reckon Id get before I broke the instructors will?

Backchat = ZERO.

You wouldn't get halfway into any of those sentences before they were in your face telling you to shut up then have you doing pushups or something.

First of all, you do not call an army instructor "Sir". They are all NCOs. As for any back chat of the sort you have described, you would be marched at the double straight to the guard Room and for the next 7 days you would not stop running. Do not think you would be the forst that have tried this and they know how to deal with it.

Instructors are hard as nails, my hubby is a drill instructor and he gets thing like that said to him each day but he has a sence of humour, it does depend on your instructor really. Some have a laugh and some dont, luck of the day really. You can try and see what happens. Im like that with the so called backchat it good. Im loving it

Be very careful with your words, your first example was ok but the one about shining the boots could get you in some trouble. You could reply, You don't say, I could have swore the were shined when I put them on. Just know your limits with each superior. Another way is if you do something wrong and an NCO tells you to drop and do push ups, do them, and then while your still in the front leaning rest position, tell him, thank you for conditioning my mind and my body, SERGEANT. The one thing to remember is to always show respect to the rank, especially the officers, and your probably be ok.

Well, seeing as you are calling them instructors instead of NCO's or Drill Sargeants, I am assuming you are NOT in the Army or are in AIT, and if you are where are you getting internet access from. Second, I always appreciated a little humor from my Soldiers as long as it didn't cross the line of disrespect. But then again, I am talking about the Soldiers who worked for me on a daily basis, I was not a Drill Sargeant nor a AIT Instructor. This is not Full Metal Jacket Boot of the 60's anymore, but you can't "break" a drill sargeant.

save it for your battle buddies
The broken thing will be you. That's a fact Jack.
also very true that you will get it from the rest of your training group..didn't you see "full metal jacket"?
my son calls people who get the group in trouble "blue falcons"
ask someone else what that means, I'm not going to repeat it.

Basic is designed to expose your weaknesses and build a soldier, marine, sailor. Consider this they track who is most successful in getting people through basic. The instructors job is to make sure you succeed. It is mostly an act to see if you can handle pressure ,if you can't they want you out. If they think you should be out they will get you out, oh yes they will.

I must say you are very brave or stupid. I never had the
guts to backchat my superior officers and as you have
mentioned, they are holding the stick. I do what I am
told and chop chop too. Good luck anyway. BTw fyi
no officer likes to be ridiculed, the price that you have
to pay is not worth the risk. however its a nice thought.

I think you're just trying to show how 'witty' you are and have no intention of saying this.

You're probably not even in the army and your certainly not witty either

And breaking the instructors will with crap retorts like that, what army is it your in anyway?!? Must be soft as sh1te if the instructors are that easy to break.

it completely depnds when im instructing soldiers in small arms training im happy as larry ill take stick insidee the building when were looking over the weapons (i.e not armed), but as soon as their made live i become serious and laughting ends and serious mode come on, my advise would find out about your instructor if their the joking type theyll start it and under no circumstance do you answer back to the rsm (he is god) and hell make our live hell (like paint all the curbs black and white, paint all the sonnes on the side of the parade ground white).

You will end up getting recycled and making basic training that much longer for you. They probably won't get you out, instead you will just have 4 years of hell. Good luck, you seem like a good one.

PS: If you really care about your country you will keep your mouth shut, or do us all a favor and just don't join. You will be wasting everyone's time.
