I live in a community with orchards, so there are a lot of Mexicans here. I don't see many white people out there volunteering to pick fruit, so in a way, I understand the orchardists hiring whoever they can find, or else their entire crop will go to waste, and their livlihood. They have to have pickers in a small window of time to get it all done.
I think that these should be given some sort of legal status, because they are needed, but for anyone else, aren't employers supposed to get proof of ability to work in this country? SS cards, Green cards, visas..... Are employers being held accountable to that? Are we tracking under the table jobs in any way? The illegals wouldn't be here if someone wasn't hiring them right?

He's gone to elementary, middle, high school, community college. Worked, paid taxes. He's an American, although he was born in Mexico. Are all of you anti-amnesty supporters saying that he should go back to Mexico? A country he hasn't even been to himself, which he has no ties to other than his parents and relatives?

Is my friend an American, or is he a Mexican?

I'm just posing this situation to let many of the anti-illegal peope to realize that MANY people fall into my friend's situation. What do you suggest we should do about people in his situation?

BTW - I am for building a border wall and halting all illegal immigration.

undocumented staus?I don't think they are.Obviously they have it better here then where they came from(otherwise they wouldn't be here).Even if they make $75.00 a day here they would only get about $20.00 a day there(if their even lucky enough to find job there).Along with the other perks healthcare, food stamps, subsidized housing,etc.etc.

I have it on good authority that the Swedish Chef is an undocumented alien. I'm pretty sure he'd like to get a job outside of the food service industry but he needs his papers to do it!

Do we have something to be concerned about? Will taking very young girls be consider ok if we grant amnesty?

We have a small town nearby that used to be a mix of black and white 15 years ago---then we got a poultry plant that actively recruited Hispanics from Mexico, and other places-----this changed the entire town now-----much of the downtown stores are now Mexican owned we have never disliked the people and have even learned how to speak their language a little bit--I am glad to see then gain success and have their own businesses-----just one little problem------they don't seem to understand about statutory rape.....they are wooing and having sex with these young girls as young as 12 years of age-----now thats just pain sick-----and if we walk down the street they make cat-calls and say stuff and act ugly------I am not against them just wish they would get the idea to don't do that-----and leave the under-age girls alone------if I had a child and they did that I would press charges.....How can we get them to understand?
will this be considered acceptable behavior if amnesty is granted?

We are from India and we have cleared our labor certification. We want to change our apartment but do not want it to delay our green card processing. I am not sure if it has any effect.

A lot of people that are livid about immigration seem to be that way because of the ethnicity of our current immigrants. I grew up near the border, it was 85% hispanic. I ate a lot of Mexican food, dated a lot of hispanic girls, and learned Spanish. I don't have a problem with signs being in Spanish or anything. Where I live now, there is a town that was a German immigrant town. They still have signs in German, flout the German culture, and some people still speak German there... but no one gets angry about that.

It seems that a lot of people are uncomfortable with Latino culture, when it really isn't all that different from ours. At least they're Christians, and we don't have to deal with the religious strife that the UK and France deal with their immigrants.

Maybe if you hate to hear "Para Español, marque dos" on the phone, you should take the time to learn a second language. It's not hard. Americans are some of the few people in the world that only speak 1 language

A very wise man told me many years ago that one day an event would happen in this country------and out of the confusion a charismatic leader would arise to lead the Latino-Americans into a struggle to take over power. And that there would be much turmoil and bloodshed.....Given the number of illegals in this country now-----do you feel giving them amnesty now would cause more problems for our country or would it help to make things better????

I told her that there are actually places that you pay, like staffing companies, which will find housing for you and find you a job. Many of these caters to illegal immigrants. What do you think about that? And do you think the INS can use these places to help find undocumented people?

It sounds like Bush is determined to fight al Qaeda overseas, but at the same time, is determined to let 40 million illegal immigrants take us over in our own cities and towns?

What is your take on this inconsistancy?

On top of illegals, we have islamic training camps to train ex-convict/converts-to-muslim in the U.S. that reporters can find but highly trained federal agents can't. These are the same agents who will supposedly enforce the new comprehensive immigration act.

If their only crime is illegally crossing the border(which is only a misdemeanor) then it would seem to me that having them pay a hefty fine makes perfect sense. We usually don't arrest people that commit misdemeanors unless it is something they have done many many times before...We usually charge them fines and give them a warning am I not right??? I just don't understand what everyone wants? Ok so we make them pay back taxes, but what way do we have of finding out exactly how much they truly owe in back taxes??? It seems more logical to me to just start fresh, charge them the 5000 dollars and then from then on out make them pay taxes... To me, AMNESTY, is just saying "Ok, sure you can stay" and not giving them fines...

I know that the Berlin Wall isn't a great comparison, since it was meant to keep people IN east Berlin, not out. However, it seems that a lot of people want a militirized border that sounds ominously like it.

I'm from the Texas border region, the wall is going to be fast- tracked in federal lands. This means national parks and wildlife refuges will be the first to be severely disrupted because they are building not only the fence, but a road alongside it. There are beautiful refuges along the Rio Grande that thousands of people from around the world visit to see the rare birds that migrate through there. I used to go as a kid, and still go hiking there when I go home. Migrants don't cross the river through the parks.

I've contacted my U.S. representative, and he's doing everything he can to stop this travesty, but it may not work. Would you want this fence if it was in your back yard?

If they are making money while they are here illegally, is not that money the same as money a drug maker earns? And we sieze the money and belongings of drug makers when we catch them. So, shouldn't we do the same to the money that illegal aliens make?

Truthfully, I'm a bit doubtful of what the politicians say. If a wall were built, wouln't people just hop a boat and sail for American shores? Isn't that how everbody except the native American Indians (they walked over the Berring Strait) orignally got here?
