Absolutely stopped cold in it's tracks. Then the man needs an alcohol test and mental competency test before he ever has a part in writing any more bills because this man is so removed from reality it's not funny.

Unfortunately the link makes the same claim without siting the polling organization or the methodology used.
I'd also point out that opposition to a piece of legislation is not the same thing as unity. Even if the 96% stat is true, 54% may oppose it because they don't want Amnesty, while 28% oppose it because the President supports it, and the other 14% want a more generous Amnesty program with fewer restrictions and provisos.

Any bill that has ANYTHING to do with ANY sort of amnesty should be not just killed - but buried never to rise again from the grave.
When are those in political office going to figure out that the citizens of this country want nothing to do with another turn of the cheek to those that break our laws?
In addition to giving amnesty to 12-20 million illegal aliens, S. 1348 will increase legal immigration by another 302,000 a year.
We have been held hostage for the last six years now by a President that has within his power to enforce existing law and to secure the borders and has not.
That time is over. S. 1348 is a sinister bill that was created for the purpose of fooling the Senate and the American public into accepting another giant amnesty. This is an outrage and it will be stopped.

Why are you calling it Kennedy's bill? The sponsor is Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid of Nevada.
The co-sponsors are:
Sen Kennedy, Edward M. [D - MA]
Sen Leahy, Patrick J. [D - VT]
Sen Menendez, Robert [D - NJ]
Sen Salazar, Ken [D - CO]
Yes, all Dems. But then again, where'd you get your "96%" number from? Oh, I see, from a website dedicated to anti-immigration measures. Yeah, I'm sure that's a totally unbiased number.
If you really want to sway people, how about sticking with good sources and reasonably unbiased data?
So what do I say? By and large, I think illegal immigration should be stopped, and fought at the level of prosecuting people and companies that hire them. I listened to Chertoff the other day (he's all in favor of this bill), and his reasoning was specious and disingenuous.

I send my Democrat senator an email everyday, I feel I have to change it a little bit so they don't just round file it, but everyday,
he hears from me about this, and I will do so everyday until this bill is DEAD.
These careerists, the socialists, are going to try and sneak this one through, on the QT, if we bury them in complaint it might work
send them something everyday, make it a habit, like brush teeth, email senator, eat breakfast.

The 96% number is meaningless. It's not a random survey of people. It's an informal survey of people who visited that particular web site, an anti amnesty web site.
