Building a wall is ridiculous. It did not work in China. And, to quote a comedian(whose name has left me at present), who would build it?
What you have to keep in mind is that America was developed as a safe haven to escape persecution, underdeveolped economical conditions, and poor living environments. The pilgrims, for example, landed on Plymouth Rock so they wouldn't have to face death for not being part of the Evangelical church. The state of Georgia was originally chartered for people to work and gragually pay off their debts. Thousands of European Jews flocked to America during World War 2. The Mexicans wouldn't be crossing the borders now if life in Mexico weren't horrendous and American standard of living weren't better off. America was designed to accept anyone in search of a better life.
As to the Coast Gaurd, Cubans arrive on shore everyday, and they get to stay.
What I think(and this is my opinion/idea) should be placed in effect, is a work permit for all existing illegal immigrants. This would force companies who underpay illegal immigrants to pay at least minimun wage and taxes. And the illegal immigrants would have to pay taxes too, but because they're getting payed higher wages, they'd have no room to complain. This ultimately would lower the taxes for the rest of Americans because there would be more people paying taxes. My idea may be flawed some, but it sounds more legitamit that just shooting, blocking their way with a wall, or bombing immigrants when they try to cross the border. Wasting arsenal or construction material on such projects would call for an increase of tax dollars and an ache for the rest of our wallets.

If you want stop illegals coming to American we should not to build a wall. A wall says we can control a problem by focusing on the supply side. If you want to fix the problem, focus on the demand side. The easiest way to fix the demand side is to create a demand in Mexico for workers. If we do this, we will not only fix the illegal immigrant problem, we will help our economy. How to fix it. All the jobs that went to China and other Pacific countries, need to be relocated to Mexico. This means, boycott products from China and the other Pacific rim countries. Buy any product that are made in North or Central America. Communicate to all businesses, especially Wal-Mart, that we are only going to purchase products made in the Americas. Illegal immigrants only want to come to the US to support the family and have a better life. Nike, Converse, move to Mexico. If there are jobs in Mexico, the illegal immigrants will dry up. Last, we should allow a green card for temporary status that would allow non-citizens to work in the US. If an employer is caught hiring a non-authorized worker, they need to be fined. This will fix the problem.

The idea of a wall is funny. It's hilarious. Do you really think that these rich businessowners who are US citizens by the way will let you cut off their supply of cheap labor? You know that's totally un-American. People here will still find a way to get that cheap labor. This isn't about the illegal immigrants. When will people realize? All this democratic, patriotic, b.s. is foolish. People in America are so arrogant, egotistical, and outright stupid. They have the attitude like its their land which was stolen by genocide and warfare to begin with. Now they want to kick some people out of suppossedly "their" country. If you want the illegal immigrants to go home, do one simple thing: QUIT BUYING PRODUCTS THAT REQUIRE CHEAP IMMIGRANT LABOR. HOW MANY OF YOU ARE PREPARED TO QUIT SHOPPING AT WAL MART OR PATRONIZING LOCAL HOTELS AND RESTAURANTS? Now when you're slapped with that harsh reality illegal immigration don't seem as bad does it?

It wouldn't work and it would be costly. The best way to solve the problem is to fine the hell out of companies like Tyson who hire illegals at wages higher than can be made in Mexico but lower than they would have to pay to legal Americans. If the financial hardship were great enough for these companies, there would be no reason to hire illegals and, in turn, illegals would not come to America. The legislations already exists for such fines, however, most companies only recieve a slap on the wrist for their offenses.

I like George Carlin's solution better.... and he kills two birds with one stone:
George Carlin's Solution to Save Gasoline
"Bush wants us to cut the amount of gas we use. The best way to stop using so much gas is to deport 11 million illegal immigrants! That would be 11 million less people using our gas. The price of gas would come down. Bring our troops home from Iraq to guard the border. When they catch an illegal immigrant crossing the border, hand him a canteen, rifle and some ammo, and ship him to Iraq. Tell him if he wants to come to America, then he must serve a tour in the military.
Give him a soldier's pay while he's there and tax him on it.After his tour, he will be allowed to become a citizen since he defended this country. He will also be registered to be taxed and be a legal patriot.
This option will probably deter illegal immigration and provide a solution for the troops in Iraq and the aliens trying to make a better life for themselves. If they refuse to serve, ship them to Iraq anyway, without the canteen, rifle, or ammo. Problem solved."

It's a shame that people want to put up walls. We are dealing with people not cattle. Last time I checked we didn't create this land we live on so how are we to say who can't go where. It's racism at it's worst baby. Things are going to get worst if we can see that this world belongs to no man...

The totaltitarian state of East Germany built a wall to contain one half of a single city--Berlin. It didn't work.
The ancient Chinese built a huge wall to keep out the barbarians. Building it bankrupted them, allowing the same barbarians to invade and conquer. This happened TWICE.
No, we cannot built a three-thousand-long wall that will do any good at all.

A wall would not stop any one it is a silly idea and a waste of money. what is needed is real immigration reform which allows people to come here more easily, but which then insists that they become citizens. The real drain on the system is not illegals it is green card holders who maintain a loyalty to their home country and not to the US. It should be five years on a green card either become a citizen or go back
