Immigration - August 2006

HI,

My mom is a US citizen living in Singapore for many years now. Every year she returns to the United States. She does not have income because she's dependent on her Singaporean husband.

Recently, she tried to petition my brother as an immigrant to the US to join the rest of the family . She was informed by the consulate that she needed to submit a letter of explanation on the legal basis of why she had not filed her income taxes in the past years. She was told that she needed to file it even if she had NO income and was dependent on her non-US citizen/resident husband(my dad of course).

Does a US citizen need to file income tax if she is not in the US and is a dependent wife of a non US citizen? Is anyone familiar with the US tax laws regarding this? Should we get a lawyer?

We need to know what to do and what explanation to give in order to submit this letter of explanation to the US consullate and expedite my brother's petition. Mom is willing to do what is necessary. We'd appreciate any constructive advice.

Thank you so much in advance.

If our country was to start a revolution, following a war with Mexico to remove the illegals from the nation...

Because that's what would happen if you think about it...

The government helps out the illegals-- American people get pissed, stand up to the government, 250 million strong... The government sees this, and decides, okay we gotta deport them.. and so they try--

...it'll start riots and ruin national security...The illegals would trash the place, kill, rape, murder anybody and everybody to "have a better life."

...Mexico would feel offended, and fight back, however, the government would no longer be fighting us, but fighting Mexico....

....Say all this happened, what would the rest of the world think?

Calling yourself Mexican-American if you are Mexican, yet have American citizenship?

I consider myself Mexican-American. I am Mexican, I was born in America. I love it here and I would never leave it, but I also love Mexico.

I hate to see each of my countries fight, but it happens. Just because people call themselves Mexican-American doesn't mean they are more Mexican.

It means they are Mexican race-wise, but American citizen-wise.

Please understand this. Whay are your thoughts?

My wife is a legal immigrant from Europe. Obviously, as she is learning the english language, she is limited to jobs such as restaurant, etc. She is currently working as a bus girl in a restaurant, but has very little work due to the fact that the other illegal mexicans have worked for this company longer. Is this fair? What is this county coming to? I had a similar experiance when I moved to California. I was turned away from jobs because they claimed it was cheaper to just hire illegals. The government is trying to tell us that these illegals are doing the jobs that Americans don't want, but the truth is that the rich are getting ricjher, and that is why they are hiring these illegals. What is all this?

The Mexican flag is flown in the USA?

No one is dying from it.
No one is being harmed.
It is just an expression of one's country.
You can love two countries at once.
The law doesn't prohibit it.

So why do people complain? Just let the Mexican people express themselves and have fun while they also enjoy themselves in the USA. Just because they wave it doesn't mean they hate the USA and like Mexico better.

What do you think? (this is only mexicans in general, not illegals)

...against Mexicans coming into America and spreading their language, culture, religion, and heritage?

I have heard so many people saying that Mexicans cannot change America because it is America, not Mexico. Well, since this is the melting pot of many countries, I believe we are entitled to take on all of this from Mexicans.

And no, I don't mean illegal Mexicans for all of you who are already accumilating and argument. I mean just plaim immigrants from Mexico, since this IS the immigration page.

So are you against this, for, or nuetral?

For those who think I ask boring questions, here's a REALLY boring one ... mind you, it interests me ... :)

Thomas Jefferson forcibly tells us what the States retained under the US Constitution in regards to immigration:

Resolved, That alien friends are under the jurisdiction and protection of the laws of the state wherein they are; that no power over them has been delegated to the United States, nor prohibited to the individual states, distinct from their power over citizens; and it being true, as a general principle, and one of the amendments to the Constitution having also declared, that "the powers not delegated to the United States by the Constitution, nor prohibited to the states, are reserved, to the states, respectively, or to the people," the act of the Congress of the United States, passed the 22d day of June, 1798, entitled "An Act concerning Aliens"

Anyone care to read and interpret for themselves? :)
