In response to some answers, my place of work has two managers that are illegal immigrants. So don't think that they are just working at McDonalds, and picking produce in the fields. If we need illegals to be dishwashers, and to work on farms, they why don't we give them work visa's to do these jobs, and these jobs only. I see Americans workers turned away everyday because owners would rather hire illegals and pay them $4 an hour. With jobs dissapearing everyday, and the cost of living rising everyday, there are a lot of Americans out there that would like to work in restaurants, landscaping, etc (maybe even as a second job). What I'm saying is that all you people who are out there believing that illegals only work jobs that Americans don't want are greatly mistaken.

The first part is to make the ones that are illegally here get the identification required to be here. Deporting all of them would be a waste of millions of taxpayer dollars. I don't think the job market is getting smaller for the American worker. For instance, jobs that have been sent offshore to India are coming back. While it was a "cost-saving" move for companies, it turns out that it cost them more. So, welcome home. Most of the migrant workers hold positions that are low skill and low pay. They do not run companies or wear suits and ties. They work at McDonalds. Who has a career at McDonalds? Especially if you have hope for your future?

Here's a few to think about...
1. Cheap labor
2. Break the back of unions (why hire a fellow countrymen at $20 an hour when you can hire an illegal at $5 an hour).
3. Give illegals the right to vote and it keeps the Republicans in power.
4. Republicans are for big business that wants the cheap labor.
5. After a period of time, they are kicked out and it makes the Republicans look tough on illegal immigration.

How long will it be until all of our jobs are held by illegals or are shipped to a third world country?

How would you like your school system to pass a levy when none or a few of your kids teachers speak broken English or little English because they are from Mexico and came up under Bush's illegal job services?

The only way it will stop is to vote all Republicans out of office as soon as you can.

I agree with cashcobra,
Do you recall what happened when all immigrants legal and illegal protested a few months back (people from all sorts of backgrounds) and missed work? It was a total chaos, not to mention the millions of dollars in loss of revenues for the country that day!!

As usual there has to be someone to blame, if we were to have massive deportations, we wouldn't see the end of it and would really know the meaning of chaos, why do people such as yourself only do one thing right remain ignorant about current events including socioeconomic issues. I'll say it again KNOWLEDGE IS POWER!!

The country's economy would collapse, no doubt about it.

Actually, the unemployment rate is extremely low. In fact, the periods of highest immigration have historically always corresponded to the lowest unemployment rates.

Maybe the whole thing is being blown out of proportion by people seeking to demonize immigrants in order to get elected. But politicians would never do that, right??

Not everything is Bush's fault. What are you going to say when he's no longer there to be the scapegoat of everyone's criticism? Perhaps then we all will take a bit of the responsibility. Americans like you and me have watched illegals coming over the boarder for a decade...and I haven't called a Senate represenative or tried to stop it. So, it's partly my fault for being so passive. How about yourself? Ever actually tried to use your voice to do anything besides criticize the president?

Maybe he's a beaner-lover. Maybe he doesn't want to offend a significant voting block. Maybe business relies on an abundance of cheap labor. Maybe, given that our military is spread so thin, we just don't have the man-power and resources to secure the southern border.

I like Mexicans and I like parts of Mexico, but I don't want' to live in Mexico. These Hispanics need to learn US English. That said, I think the US government should do far more to help Mexicans to learn to speak gringo. Word Up!

Bush isn't giving any jobs away unless he somehow put forth a directive to the US Postal Service instructing them to only hire illegals. Private citizens/businesses are hiring illegals. If we strip welfare down to a minimum, a lot of the lazy asses in our country will have to pick the produce as a previous responder mentioned.

'Cause Bush doesn't seem to really care about actual americans, nor do some of his' friends' who've got billions riding on their ability to screw around with our laws...

Note for festive...one great thing about 'a day without and immigrant' was the 92% reported drop in shoplifting...and as far as total chaos, nah. We need real enforcement, and people that aren't afraid to work an 8 hour day.

Because Bush is all about helping Big Business and their interests, not the American people. Iraq and high oil prices is all about Haliberten getting rich and medicare reform is all about the big Drug Companies getting rich.

Remember when he wanted to reform social security? That was all about making us "invest" our own money in 401K type stock maret investments. That would have sent billions of dollars in purchase fees and commissions to the brokage companies. Instead of all the money going to the gov it would have been invested weekly with small fees to every worker everytime his/her paycheck makes a deposit.

Because they can't legally get away with what employers do with illegals! They pay LESS than minimum wage, and NO benefits! That's why the Repubs like them. Hell, they would like Americans as well if thy would work 12 hour days for $6,000 a year! How about you?? Wanna work for $6,000?
