Kobie and Chris F have given the best advice. Oh and Sandra....I copied this off YOUR profile...

''But have a passion to protect the underdog and hate disrespectful and openly rude or hostile people'' I re-assess that statement if I were you??

I'm South African and have worked here for 5 years and was only out of work for 2 weeks after landing and have worked hard ever since. At least he has come over here looking for a better quality of life for himself and is offering a valuable and sought after trade to this country. He's a bit daft for not sorting out his visa details though.

Working holiday, or what? Does he not have a British- or Irish-born grandparent? What are his education and professional skills and wealth? Does he have prospects for marriage to a EU/EEA/Swiss national? Or a diplomat?

Direct application for an extension of a working holiday visa beyond 2 years may not be the wisest move. Perhaps going to Ireland, if he meets their immigration requirements. After 5 years, applying for Irish citizenship.

I would guess he has all this information already. He must have had literature explaining everything when he got his visa. If he was too bone idle or stupid enough to apply for an extension then he may be in a bit of trouble. A good letter from his employer wouldn't go amiss with an application for a visa extension...

A quick "Marriage" does not give the right to reside or work, it could help with an application but there will be rigourous checks.

He will have to apply for an extension to the work visa or residency.

All the information you need is at:

If he is still gainfully employed by the firm for which he has always worked in this country, they should be able to apply for an extension on his behalf. The proper website for the Immigration Directorate is www.ind.homeoffice.gov.uk.
