...against Mexicans coming into America and spreading their language, culture, religion, and heritage?
I have heard so many people saying that Mexicans cannot change America because it is America, not Mexico. Well, since this is the melting pot of many countries, I believe we are entitled to take on all of this from Mexicans.
And no, I don't mean illegal Mexicans for all of you who are already accumilating and argument. I mean just plaim immigrants from Mexico, since this IS the immigration page.
So are you against this, for, or nuetral?

Sure. I think it's a beautiful culture and I'm already the same religion. It's also a great second language for Americans to learn as so many people speak it throughout the world. I think all people who have come to this country should preserve there heritage and traditions. We will never be another Mexico, or Britain, or Spain, or France.. We are a wonderful mix of the best the world has to offer who seek a prosperous peaceful life for our families. After all weren't we all once immigrants or their descendants?

I don't mind immigrants coming here legally. And we do get a lot of great culture from it. But it should be just that, culture. It is fine to bring some Spanish language here. But, you MUST be able to speak the language of this country...English. And don't give me that crap that there is no official language. The country was founded on English and all our founding documents are English. That's the language.
Mexican food, style, music...etc, all adds to this country. And if you look around we do embrace those things. People only get mad when you try to change the things that shouldn't be changed, ie. turning it into Mexico. Anything that involves tax dollars should be conducted in English--no bi-lingual schools, Spanish documents, or excuses for not speaking English.
Very few countries give to immigrants like the US does. Go to most countries and you MUST speak their language...they won't make special exceptions or forms for you. Or teach their schools in English because your kids don't want to learn German or whatever. But when US citizens want to remove those burdens on our taxes, everyone accuses us of being racist.

I have no problem with LEGAL immigration from Mexico or anywhere else. Having many cultures in the USA only enrichens it. We already have much Mexican and Spanish culture here and I, for one, have no problem whatsoever with it. As for the religion part, that is a right of all Americans, the right to worship as they choose. There is nothing wrong with being proud of your heritage and embracing it. I would love to learn more about Mexican culture and traditions. Anyone who wants to speak Spanish can as far as I'm concerned as long as those who speak it do not expect all Americans to speak it or understand it. I have never been around people who speak Spanish and therefore have never had a reason to learn it. I should not be expected to do so to accomodated people COMING INTO the country I live in, which has always been English speaking. If someone comes HERE they should learn MY language.
So am I against it, for or neutral"?
I'm for it.

I'm okay with legal immigrants keeping touch with their culture and language, but they need to make a big effort to learn English and observe American holidays and learn about the history of America. They need to try to assimilate and BE American! Show respect for the USA and NOT fly their home country flag in the USA.

I am for it. I mean, it only makes America a bit more interesting. There is no harm in knowing a second language or understanding other cultures. And i have to say, music from other cultures in FAR better than Jessica Simpson...

I don't care how one lives when they are here. If you want to carry on a culture from your old country, so be it. You are right - that is what America is based on. Fine by me. But they do need to do some assimilating - learn the language, follow the laws, all that. I say learn the language because if you go to any other country, they don't make special concessions for Americans because we don't speak their language. I can't go to France and expect everyone to learn to speak to me - I would be expected to know how to speak some French. And it is a reasonable request.
So if they want to live and dress a certain way, fine. If they want to eat certain foods and carry on certain traditions from their "home land", fine. And at home, if they would like to speak Mexican, that is dandy. But if they go to an American store, then they need to know English. Only fair.

"In the first place we should insist that if the immigrant who comes here in good faith becomes an American and assimilates himself to us, he shall be treated on an exact equality with everyone else, for it is an outrage to discriminate against any such man because of creed, or birthplace, or origin. But this is predicated upon the man's becoming in very fact an American, and nothing but an American...There can be no divided allegiance here. Any man who says he is an American, but something else also, isn't an American at all. We have room for but one flag, the American flag, and this excludes the red flag, which symbolizes all wars against liberty and civilization, just as much as it excludes any foreign flag of a nation to which we are hostile...We have room for but one language here, and that is the English language...and we have room for but one sole loyalty and that is a loyalty to the American people."

The vast majority of Mexican americans or soon to be americans I have met have been very nice hard working people. I welcome their culture into this country. We have too many boring anglo's in this country anyway.

I don't have a problem with Mexicans coming over legally, and Legally becoming citizens.
But why should they get it easier than my grandparents?
Freedom is not free, it is earned, not handed down on a silver platter. Do it legally, learn English, and pass the test.
